‘American Songbook’ Concert

At Roxbury Library

ROXBURY — The Fryer/Balaban Swingtet, a jazz quartet, will present “Pages from the American Songbook” at Minor Memorial Library, 23 South Street in Roxbury, on Sunday, August 17, at 2 pm, as part of the Frasier W. McCann concert series.

The newly developed program of this popular group consists of music by ten popular composers, including George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, Jerome Kern and Hoagy Carmichael. Earlier this year the Swingtet performed Irving Berlin’s music to a standing-room-only audience at the library.

The concert series is held in memory of Roxbury’s Frasier W. McCann, a major benefactor of the library who was an avid lover of music. The concert and following reception are open to the public, free of charge, but patrons should arrive early as space is limited.

Minor Memorial Library is handicapped-accessible. Call the library at 860-350-2181 for information and directions.
