Girls U13
Power 1, Bridgeport 0 â Celeste Cheung scored the lone goal in a win over Bridgeport. Abby Keough, Molly Mahony and Christina Caporale all played well for the Power. Stefanie Clavette notched the shutout in goal.
Power 1, Ridgefield 0 â Lexi Black came through with the lone goal of the game to give Newtown the win. Ale Fuentes and Kendall Svanda played solid offense while Alex Klein and Hannah Maret both played well on defense and at midfield.
Power 2, Trumbull 1 â Cristina Naldini scored first with a perfect direct kick in the first half and Katherine Scott scored the winning goal off an assist from Ale Fuentes to lead the Power. Lexi Black, Nora Murphy and Meaghan Carney all pressured all game on offense.
Girls U12
Flash 2, Greenwich 1 â The Flash remained undefeated after a win over Greenwich. Melissa Buccino started the scoring with a breakaway goal followed up with the second goal by Brittany Tolla. Defense was led by Katie Shirley, Kristen Grabowski and Kristy Papaj. Caitlin Yakush and Melissa Buccino remained tough in goal.
Boys U10
White Lightning 2, Darien 0 â Kevin Droniak and Brenton Scott scored to lead the White Lightning to the win. Ryan King, Sawyer Conrad, Kaj Djonne and Clay Gattey passed well and controlled the offensive play setting up the scoring drives. Nathyn Horvath and Constant Gregoire were excellent in midfield with many steals. The White Lightning finished up 8-2-3 overall, 4-2-2 in the South West District, CJSA Advanced Division. Next weekend, the locals will compete in a tournament in North Kingston, Rhode Island.
Girls U10
Lightning 3, Trumbull 2 â The Lightning captured first place in the South-West District last Friday with a 3-2 win at Trumbull. Sarah Lynch powered the offense, scoring the winning goal with two minutes left in the game. Jessica Keller and Kailee Dunnigan also scored for the Lightning. Dale Shearin and Emily Riley were good in goal. Caroline Tanner helped spark the Lightning offense and Taylor Lafave had a great game on D.

Girls U14
Purple Pirates 5, Hurricanes 0 â Jillian Thomson, Ali Blume, Mara Biondi, Kyla OâLeary and Emily Lones all scored to lead the Pirates to the win. For the âCanes, goalie Molly Arneth, Kyra Smith, Samantha Whitley, Abby Hungaski and Kristen DeGirolamo all played well.
Dominators 5, Turf Trashers 2 â Kelly VanVeen scored a pair of goals as Emily Floros, Jen VanVeen and Alex Fogelberg scored solo goals to lead the Dominators. For the Trashers, Emily Peters notched a pair of goals as Michaela Beaudry, Courtney Yapp and goalie Abbey Bruno had solid performances.
Boys U14
Meteors 3, Dynamite 2 â Kieran Lardner scored two goals and assisted on a goal by Jake Moore to lead the Meteors. Chad Cullens and Michael Teixeira also notched assists while Brian White did a great job anchoring the defense. The Dynamite came back from a 3-0 deficit in the second half two goals, the first from Ryan Pisani and the second on a penalty kick by Brett Pearce. Andy Hsu and Ryan LeMay played strong games at midfield and Mac Morlock played great in goal.
Dynamite 5, Golden Toasters 2 â Tanner Jansky scored two goals and Yossi Kohrman-Glaser notched four assists to lead the Dynamite. Ryan LeMay, Craig Frigon and William Carr also scored. For the Toasters, Francis Saracini and Tyler Reufenacht scored as Tom Ermis, Taylor Rutter and Grant Rickets played well.
Meteors 1, TNT 1 â Kieran Lardner scored off an assist from Jake Moore to lead the Meteors. Justin Saint was strong on defense and Rob Nordman had some great saves as goal keeper. For the TNT, Robbie Beier scored as Tommy Cassin and Paolo Moscovici controlled the midfield. Christian Barrett anchored the defense.
Girls U10
Comets 5, Soccer Shockers 1 â Kat Jennings scored two goals and Haley Dunn, Taylor Zingaro and Anna Pinckney each scored a goal to lead the Comets. Anita Luxkaranayagam had a great overall performance. Jaqueline Mooney scored for the Shockers with an assist from Kimberly Brelo. Danielle Agugliaro, Sydney Allen and Emma Lardner all played great for the Shockers.
Tie Dye Tigers 3, Gladiators 0 â Emily Grimes scored two goals with assists by Kerry Scallon and Sierra Mathers, who added the third goal with an assist by Alexi Rodriguez to ensure the win.
Tie Dye Tigers 4, Twisters 3 â An epic tournament battle that went to the 13th round of the sudden death shootout was finally captured by the Tigers. Jesse Sailer, Jamie Duncan and Sierra Mathers (the game winner) scored for the Tigers. For the Twisters, Hope McMorran, Katie Mossbarger and Paige Thanasoulis scored.
Strikers 1, Soccer Shockers 0 â Katie Mossbarger and Paige Thanasoulis powered the offense in a shootout win over the Shockers. Mikayala Kuligowski and Haley Trudell were persistent on offense and Tess Stofka and Emily Turco were strong on defense. For the Shockers, Jacqueline Mooney was spectacular in goal and Sydney Allen and Eliza Eggleston were stingy on defense. Meagan Weber played very well on offense.
Rockets 5, Nighthawks 1 â Hannah Booth scored four goals and Nicole Mendonca added a solo to fuel the Rockets. Megan Milano and Kelly Coughlin played aggressively on defense. For the Nighthawks, Julia Schoeni scored the goal as Alexa Purcell played well on defense and Rachel Crosby supported offense. Renee Henriques made a good effort in goal.
Mad Monkeys 2, Twisters 2 â Caitlin Filiato and Veronica Moyer each scored a goal to lead the Monkeys. Taryn McClearly played well on offense and Emily Jerris played a strong all-around game. For the Twisters, Hope McMorran scored both goals as Emily Campbell and Amanda Martinez played well on defense and Katie Mossbarger was solid in goal.
Boys U10
Huskies 1, Dynamite 0 â Colin Reilly scored the lone goal on a penalty kick mid-way through the second half to lift the Huskies to the win. Michael Stierle had a good game in goal and Nicholas Klein and Travis Hanna also played strong games. Mitchell Stewart, Wesley Morlock and Connor Miller all applied strong offensive pressure throughout the game, but could not net a goal for the Dynamite. Michael Berko played well on defense and Paul OâLeary and Jonathan Schwartz had strong games at midfield.
Girls U8
Happy Hippos 4, Huskies 0 â Callie Kraushaar scored two goals as Julia Doyle and Marina Renzi notched solo goals to lift the Hippos to the win. Sydney Flint, Maya Delity and Celia Gold played strong games for the Huskies.
Fighting Irish 6, Blue Dragons 2 â Alexandra Manoni scored a pair of goals as Megan Goyda, Megan Kelleher, Jillian Pieretti and Lauren Villamana all scored solo goals to lead the Irish. Amanda Wikramanayake played great defensively. For the Blue Dragons, Sam Crespo and Madeleine Strokis each scored a goal as Brianna MacDonald was outstanding in the net, making several saves. Melissa Sohet sparked the defense.
Mustangs 4, Wild Cats 1 â Alana Murray had three goals and Haley Conrad added a goal and Lauren King had an assist for the Mustangs. Allison Indelicato played great in goal. Sabrina El-Hag scored for the Wild Cats as Sarah Durr, Sophia Elhag and Taylor Pare all played well.
Happy Hippos 2, Wild Cats 2 â Madeline Manfredonia and Madeline Strokis scored for the Happy Hippos and Samantha Crespo had a great assist in this hard fought exciting game. Bridget Walsh and Erin Nelson scored for the Wild Cats. Lauren Cirone and Julian Elhag played great defense.
Boys U8
Torpedoes 6, Rockets 5 â James Carney scored four goals while Chris Healy added two more to lead the Torpedoes to the win. David Grossman and Conrad Reillly played a strong offensive/defensive games. For the Rockets, Chris Rovelli and Alex Hess both scored twice and Thomas Gavel once. Philip Coffey and James Chiravelli played an all-around solid game.
Silver Scorpions 7, Yankees 2 â Zachary Hamar and Michael OâKeefe both netted goals, and Jake Oliger and Quinn Helmig had multiple-goal games for the Scorpions. Quinn Browne and Hunter Booker showed improved play in the teamâs win.
Super Strikers 9, Lightning Bolts 3 â Nicholas Genovese scored six goals while Jackson Fletcher added two to lead the Strikers. Jacob Anastasi also scored as Kieran Lynch provided several assists. Forest Weatherby stopped every ball in the back field. For the Bolts, Matt Bucci scored two goals and Andrew Jasco added. Zack Vandeweerot was great as goalie with Ben Dieckman and John McCand both tough defensemen.
Superchargers 2, Blasters 2 â Bryan Morrissey and Owen Samson scored to lead the Supercharger. Thomas Leuci and Andrew Masser had great games. For the Blasters, Kelland Chrystie and Jack Riley notched goals with Nathan Augenbraun, Colin Villanana and Ryan Harvey having great games.
Torpedoes 4, Silver Scorpions 2 â Chris Healy scored three goals and James Carney added a goal as the Torpedoes torpedoed the previously undefeated Silver Scorpions. Joey Cistulli and Tucker Kistner had exceptional games at midfield. Michael OâKeefe and Jake Oliger both contributed goals for the Silver Scorpions as Danny McCarthy and Evan Londono lead the defensive effort.
CORRECTION
In a photo of the Boys 10-and-under travel team, the White Lightning, in the June 8 issue of The Newtown Bee a few names were inadvertently left out of the cutline â Constant Gregoire, Graham Hubbert, Luca Imbimbo and Nathan Horvath.
