Save The Date: Firehouse Ride September 24
The seventh annual Newtown Hook & Ladder Co. #1 Firehouse Ride, a fundraiser for one of Newtown's five volunteer fire companies, has been set for Saturday, September 24.
A 50-mile motorcycle ride with blocked intersections, this year's route will have new start and finish points. Riders will leave from 45 Main Street, the site of Hook & Ladder's current headquarters, and will finish at 12 Church Hill Road, where Hook & Ladder's new station is currently nearing completion.
At the firehouse, all will be invited - including those who do not join the ride but just want to help with fundraising - to enjoy a BBQ/pig roast, live music, and tours of the new firehouse.
Registration is $30 for riders, $20 for passengers, and $20 for adults ($12 ages 12 and under) to just join the fun at the firehouse.
Sponsorships are available, as are advertising opportunities in a program book to be distributed to guests.
Proceeds from Firehouse Rides have been used to benefit Newtown's oldest fire company. In recent years, fundraising has focused on the planning, and then construction of a new station to serve as the headquarters for Hook & Ladder.
The present firehouse was built in the early 1930s. It has served as the town garage, the town jail, and housed Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, before becoming dedicated space for Hook & Ladder in 1969. A new building will allow the company to operate 24/7/365, providing a professional level of service by a membership of volunteers, to the Hook & Ladder district, the full town of Newtown, and even local companies who call for mutual aid.
