After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Michael Agius, 24, of 140 Hattertown Road turned himself over to police at the police station about 8 pm January 5, and was charged with five offenses in connection with a motor vehicle accident last August 20 on Hawleyville Road, near its intersection with Covered Bridge Road.
Police arrested Agius on charges of driving under the influence, possession of heroin, possession of cocaine, possession of drug paraphernalia, and failure to drive to the right.
In that August accident, Agius was driving a 2003 Honda Element SUV on Hawleyville Road when the vehicle went off the road shoulder and collided with some steel guardcabling. Ambulance personnel then transported Agius to Danbury Hospital to be checked for injuries.
Following arrest processing on January 5, police released Agius on $100 bail for a January 18 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.
South Main Crash
Police report a two-vehicle accident on South Main Street at its southern intersection with Peckâs Lane at about 2 pm on January 6.
Motorist Angela Cocchiola, 36, of 7 Settlers Lane, who was driving a 2008 Dodge, was waiting at a stop sign on Peckâs Lane in preparing to make a left turn onto southbound South Main Street, police said.
At that time, motorist Rowena Playfair, 58, of Bethel was driving a 2005 Honda northward on South Main Street, police said.
When the Dodge attempted to make the left turn, the Dodge and the Honda collided, police said. There were no injuries.
The Honda then left the scene of the crash, police said. Police then found that vehicle about seven-tenths of a mile to the north in a parking lot at 127 South Main Street.
Police said they charged Playfair with driving under the influence and with evading responsibility. Playfair was released on $100 bail for a January 20 court appearance.
Police said they verbally warned Cocchiola for a stop sign violation.
Willow Brook Burglary
On January 7, police served an arrest warrant against Bruce Henry, 51, of Waterbury, charging him with second-degree larceny, third-degree burglary, and second-degree criminal mischief in connection with a residential break-in that Henry allegedly made at a Willow Brook Lane home last April.
In that incident, a Willow Brook Lane resident returned home to discover a burglary-in-progress, police have said. Henry allegedly then fled the home with various items stolen from the premises. The resident was not injured. Willow Brook Lane is a dead-end street off Boggs Hill Road.
Police said that Henry was arraigned on the charges on January 7 in Danbury Superior Court.
Henry has been held in prison since last May on unrelated charges. He was being held this week at the New Haven Correctional Center on $60,000 bail.
Dual Impacts
About 8:45 am January 9, motorist Linda Andrews, 52, of 7 Hunting Ridge Road was driving a 2002 Dodge SUV eastward on Sugar Street, police said.
At that time, motorist Howard Rovics, 74, of Bethel, who was driving a 2000 Nissan sedan, was attempting to make a left turn from a driveway at 35 Sugar Street to go westward on Sugar Street, police report.
The two vehicles collided. The Dodge then struck a utility pole, breaking the pole, police said.
There were no injuries. Rovics received a written warning for failure to yield the right of way, according to police.
MV Violations
Police report that at about 11:14 am January 6, they stopped motorist Michael Marquardt, 28, of New Milford on Berkshire Road, near Pole Bridge Road, to investigate.
Police said they charged Marquardt with misuse of a marker plate, failure to have automotive insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, and failure to display a front marker plate.
Police released Marquardt on a written promise to appear in court on January 20.
Hawleyville Accident
At about 3:30 pm on January 7 during snowy conditions, motorist Robert Krosky, 62, of 34 Mile Hill Road South, who was driving a 1988 Chevrolet pickup truck, was waiting for traffic conditions on westbound Mt Pleasant Road, near its intersection with Hawleyville Road, police said.
Motorist John Keaveny, 63, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2007 Buick sedan westward on Mt Pleasant Road, then began to slide on the snow-covered road and struck the rear end of the Chevrolet, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Keaveny for traveling too fast for conditions.
Slippery Conditions
A two-vehicle accident happened on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Marlin Road, about 1:42 pm January 7.
Motorist Yushek Pun, 21, of 1 Quarry Ridge Road was driving a 2008 Toyota station wagon northward on Toddy Hill Road, as motorist Michael Cosmedy, 21, of Monroe was driving a 2006 Ford station wagon southward there, police said.
The Ford then slid on the slippery road and entered the opposite lane, resulting in the two vehicles colliding, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Cosmedy for a moving violation.
Acura Off Road
During snowy conditions about 2:11 pm January 7, a one-car accident occurred on Glen Road, near Pine Street.
Motorist Ian Tran, 22, of 3 Shady Rest Boulevard, who was driving a 1998 Acura sedan southward on Glen Road, lost control on the snowy road, went off the street and then struck some guardrailing, police said.
Tran was not injured. Police said they verbally warned Tran for traveling too fast for conditions.
Kia Vs Mazda
At about 3:20 pm on January 6, motorist Laura Thompson, 49, of 57 Pole Bridge Road, who was driving a 2005 Mazda station wagon, was waiting for traffic on eastbound Sugar Street, near its intersection with Elm Drive, when motorist Leslie Quinn, 53, of 3 Ridge Road, who was driving a 2011 Kia station wagon eastward on Sugar Street, struck the rear of the Mazda, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Quinn for following too closely.
Mt Pleasant Collision
Motorist Kenneth Sowa, 55, of 24 Mt Pleasant Road, was driving a 2001 BMW SUV northward on Mt Pleasant Road at about 5:17 pm January 9, and then attempted to make a right turn into the driveway at that address, when northbound motorist Luis Saravali, 44, of New Milford, who was driving a 2004 Jeep SUV, struck the rear end of the BMW, police said.
There were no injuries. Saravali received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Interstate Rollover
State police report that motorist Mark Stibbe, 42, of Warwick, R.I., was driving a 1997 Jeep Cherokee SUV carrying four passengers on eastbound Interstate 84 about 1:44 am on January 8, when during adverse road conditions, Stibbe lost control of the vehicle and it veered, struck a snowbank and then rolled over.
All five people in the vehicle refused medical attention, state police said. Enforcement information was not available.
I-84 Snowplow
At about 8:24 pm on January 7, a state-owned International snowplow truck driven by Christopher Griffin, 28, of Watertown was doing snow control work on the snowy, traffic-clogged, closed westbound lanes of Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, state police said.
While backing up, the International inadvertently struck a disabled tractor-trailer truck driven by Tyshawn Menyfield, 21, of New Haven, state police said.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Elm Drive
Police report that at about 7:38 am on January 7, they stopped motorist Steven Vichiola, 23, of 26 West Street for traveling faster than the posted speed limit on Elm Drive.
After investigating, police charged Vichiola with traveling too fast and with driving with a suspended license.
Police released him on a written promise to appear on January 21 in Danbury Superior Court.
School Bus
Police report an accident involving a school bus carrying 21 child passengers and a SUV at the intersection of Queen Street and Glover Avenue about 7:18 am on January 10.
There were no injuries.
Police said motorist Heather Ann Phillips, 28, of 11 Fanwood Road, who was driving a 2005 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, was waiting in traffic at a stop sign on northbound Queen Street.
A 2005 Freightliner school bus carrying 21 child passengers ranging in age from about 12 to 14, which was driven by Kathy Smith, 60, of 11 Elana Lane, was waiting in line behind the Toyota, police said.
The front end of the bus then made contact with the rear end of the Toyota, police said. Police said they verbally warned Smith for following too closely.
Probation Violation
Police report that after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Isiah Vargas, 21, of Waterbury went to the police station on the afternoon of January 10.
Police charged Vargas with violation of probation. Vargas was placed on two years of probation by a judge in December 2009, after being convicted on a charge of third-degree assault.
Following processing, Vargas was released on $5,000 bail for a January 21 court appearance.
