Gymnasts, Coming Off Senior Night Win, Ready For States
Newtown High School's gymnastics team defeated Oxford 122.2 to 112 in the regular-season finale, at Kinetic Kids in Oxford on Senior Night, February 19.
Ally Kenny was second in the all around with a score of 32.55, and Cam Vazquez came in third with a 30.05.
Kenny was second on bars with an 8.4, second on floor with an 8.2, second on beam with an 8.05, and fourth on vault with a 7.9. Vazquez was third on vault with an 8.1 and third on floor 8.1, and also competed bars and beam. Maddie Jannott was third on bars with a 7.5 and third on beam with a 7.7.
Sarah MacMullan placed sixth on vault with a 7.7 and sixth on the floor with a 7.6, and also competed on bars.
Alana O'Donnell and Laura Hornby competed all around, Amanda Brinkmann on vault and floor, and Sammi Olah on beam.
Up next are the state championships, set for Saturday, February 27, at Pomperaug High in Southbury. The postseason got underway with the South-West Conference championships, on February 11; NHS was runner-up to New Milford.
