Connecticut Choral Society To Host Musical Gala In Newtown
"Aria: From Opera to Broadway," the Connecticut Choral Society's spring gala fundraiser, will be presented Sunday, April 3, from 3 to 5:30 pm.
The Alexandria Room at Edmond Town Hall, 45 Main Street in Newtown, will be transformed into an intimate cabaret where patrons will enjoy an afternoon of music, fine food and wine. The music program will feature soprano Megan Knapp and mezzo soprano Teresa Bucholz, accompanied by Linda Sweetman-Waters.
Tickets are $75, and are available through CTchoralsociety.org or by calling 888-927-2933. Patrons are advised to purchase tickets early, as the event is expected to sell out.
Soprano Megan Knapp, known for her exceptional artistry, rich tone, and versatility, has appeared both on the operatic stage and in concert as a soloist. She has performed in New York's Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher Hall, as well as in London's Cadogan Hall.
She has sung with the New York Philharmonic, San Francisco Symphony, and Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
Mezzo soprano Teresa Buchholz, noted for her colorful, clear voice and thoughtful interpretation in both oratorio and opera, was the winner of the female division in the Nico Castel International Master Singer Competition at Carnegie Hall.
She has been a featured soloist with Israel Philharmonic with Zubin Mehta conducting in Tel Aviv, Israel and Vienna. She has appeared in leading roles in opera companies and has had engagements with notable choral ensembles and in festivals.
