Town Players of Newtown will host auditions for The Foreigner, by Larry Shue, on Sunday and Monday, April 17-18, from 7 to 9 pm each night.newtownplayers.org.The production calls for five men and two women. This entertaining comedy takes place in a fishing lodge in rural Tilghman County, Georgia. Two Englishmen, Froggy and Charlie, arrive as guests, with Charlie having agreed to accompany Froggy on the trip after his sick wife begged him to go.

Charlie's shyness keeps him from socializing with other guests. In addition to being shy, he is depressed about his wife's illness and cannot find the words to reply to others. In order to alleviate his friend's stress, Froggy tells everyone that Charlie cannot talk because he is a foreigner, from an exotic country, and does not understand English.

Taking Froggy's claim at face value, the lodge's guests quickly begin revealing their secrets, and Charlie soon discovers quite a few delicious scandals.

Rehearsals will begin the last week of April, and the production will run Friday and Saturday evenings, June 3-25, with two Sunday matinees.
