Library cards open the world to their holders through books, audiobooks, music CDs, and DVDs.

Now library card holders across the state can let their library card open the doors of Connecticut libraries by participating in the Connecticut Library Association's Passport to Connecticut Libraries Program.

From April 1 to April 30, Connecticut residents are encouraged to visit 124 participating Connecticut public libraries. Each library has its own architecture, vibe and collection to explore and browse. Passport to Connecticut Libraries is open to adults and children, and encourages residents to explore the amazing diversity of the Nutmeg State's public libraries.

To begin locally, visit C.H. Booth Library, at 25 Main Street, to pick up a passport. Librarians will stamp the passport and hand out commemorative 2016 C.H. Booth Library buttons.

Then, take the passport to any of the other 124 participating libraries. At each visit, residents must show their library card, and then the library will stamp the passport and give another token.

Connecticut residents who visit at least five participating libraries and return their passport to a participating library by May 6 will be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $150 Visa gift card for adults (18 and up) or a $100 Visa gift card for children (under 18).

Passport to Connecticut Libraries is a statewide contest. Four winners will be selected: one adult and one child from a random drawing from all who visited at least five libraries, and one adult and one child from a random drawing from all who visited the most libraries. The winners will be informed by telephone and mailed their prize.

For more details and a full list of participating libraries, visit Facebook.com/passporttoctlibraries or ask a librarian at C.H. Booth Library about the passport program.
