Button Shop Road Stop
Police report that at about 10 pm on March 12, they spotted motorist Donald H. Kuhn, 45, of 29 Bankside Trail driving a vehicle southward on Toddy Hill Road which did not have functioning tail lamps, so they stopped him on nearby westbound Button Shop Road to investigate.
Police said they charged Kuhn with failure to have functioning tail lamps, driving under suspension, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving without automotive insurance. Kuhn was released on $1,500 bail for a March 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, police said.
Additionally, police said they discovered that Kuhn had a warrant pending against him on a charge of second-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a case in Bridgeport Superior Court. Kuhn was released on $1,500 bail for a March 27 appearance there, police said.
Mailbox Vandalism
Police said they received a report about 2:45 am on March 15 that a curbside residential mailbox on North Ridge Drive in Hawleyville had been vandalized by someone.
A black Volkswagen sedan had been seen driving away from the area at about the time the damage was discovered, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer Steven Borges at the police station at 203-426-5841.
Two Charges
While on patrol about 2:15 am on March 16, police stopped motorist David Soto, 50, of Trumbull to investigate near the intersection of Mile Hill Road and Queen Street.
Police charged Soto with failure to have functioning tail lamps and with driving under suspension. Soto was released on a written promise to appear in court on March 27.
I-84 DUI
State police report that at about 2:23 am on March 18, they were driving in the right lane of two lanes on eastbound Interstate 84 in the area between Exit 9 and Exit 10, when a vehicle approached them at high speed from behind and then passed them on the left. State police said they clocked that vehicle traveling at 85 miles per hour,
State police said that as seen from behind, they saw that speeding vehicle swerving and moving erratically, so they stopped motorist Ian V. Guilfoil, 24, of 3 Pomperaug Road to investigate.
State police said they arrested Guilfoil on charges of driving under the influence, speeding, and failure to drive in the proper lane. After processing, Guilfoil was released on $500 bail for a March 31 court appearance.
Hawleyville Crash
A two-vehicle accident occurred about 3 pm on March 18 on eastbound Interstate 84 in the vicinity of Exit 9, state police said.
In that incident, motorist Richard Guido, 79, of Carmel, N.Y., who was driving a 2012 Toyota Rav-4 SUV, moved from his lane and struck motorist Joao Galvao, 45, of Naugatuck, who was driving a 2008 Chevrolet Impala sedan, state police said.
There were no injuries. Guido received an infraction, according to state police.
Chevy vs Mercedes
At about 6 pm on March 19, motorist Danielle Brackett, 32, of 15 Walker Hill Road was driving a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV eastward on Walker Hill Road, as motorist Felicia Ross, 23, of 5 Walker Hill Road, was driving a 2005 Mercedes-Benz C-240 sedan westward there, police said.
While negotiating a curve, the Chevrolet failed to keep to the right, resulting in the two vehicles colliding near 13 Walker Hill Road, police said.
There were no injuries. Brackett received a written warning for failure to keep right on a curve, police report.
Evading Responsibility
Police said they learned at about 1:30 pm on March 20 that a black 2009 Honda Civic sedan, which had been parked alongside Hopewell Road, across the street from the parking lot for Huntington State Park, was damaged when some unknown vehicle struck the Honda, damaging the Honda’s left rear quadrant. The offending driver then left the scene without reporting the incident.
Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact Officer Benjamin Mulhall at the police station at 203-426-5841.
South Main Street Accident
A two-vehicle accident occurred at one of Sand Hill Plaza’s intersections with South Main Street about 6 pm on March 20, according to police.
Police said the collision involved motorist Kyle Gordon, 17, of 46 Philo Curtis Road, who was driving a 2006 Subaru Forester, and motorist Brian Fossaluzza, 43, of West Haven, who was driving a 2002 GMC vehicle. Gordon received possible injuries in the accident and was transported to the hospital, police said.
Police said they lodged infractions against both of the drivers.
Speeding Fugitive Found
Police report they stopped motorist Shane Fusco, 38, of 5 Nelson Lane for traveling too fast at about 11 am on March 21 on Old Hawleyville Road in Hawleyville.
After investigating, police held Fusco on extradition documents involving alleged felonies and Fusco being a fugitive from justice in both Laconia, N.H., and Hackensack, N.J., police said.
Police said they held Fusco on $250,000 bail for a court appearance that day.
At that appearance, a judge lowered Fusco’s bail to $100,000, after which he posted it and was released for an April 28 appearance.
SUV vs Minivan
Police report a two-vehicle accident involving a SUV and a minivan about 6:35 pm on March 24 at the intersection of South Main Street and Country Club Road.
Police said that motorist Christine Hermes, 38, of 99 Brushy Hill Road was driving a 2006 Ford Escape SUV northward on South Main Street and was attempting to make a left turn onto Country Club Road, as motorist Kelly Lilly, 42, of Trumbull was driving a 2003 Toyota Sienna minivan southward on South Main Street.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Hermes for failure to grant the right of way.
Criminal Trespassing
Police report that at about 12:02 am on March 27, they received a call from a Russett Road resident explaining that a person had rung their doorbell. Russett Road is a residential neighborhood in Sandy Hook near Lower Paugussett State Forest.
Police said they went to the scene, investigated and then charged Thomas Snow, 41, of Derby with second-degree criminal trespassing.
Police held Snow on $500 bail for arraignment that day in Danbury Superior Court.
