Shelton House

Police report an incident at Shelton House, a large vacant building at the town-owned Fairfield Hills campus, at about 2:30 pm on January 12.

Police said they received a report that some people had illegally entered Shelton House, which is adjacent to the Newtown Municipal Center. Police said they went to Shelton House and found three people in the area, two of whom had illegally entered the building through an unsecured window.

Police report they charged Jason Baker, 32, of Malden Mass., with third-degree criminal trespassing. Baker was released on $2,000 nonsurety bail for a January 23 court appearance.

Also, police charged Rhana Adavelli-Gaudio, 27, of Plainville with third-degree criminal trespassing, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia. Adavelli-Gaudio was released on $1,000 nonsurety bail for a January 23 court appearance.

Police said they also issued Karen Jerzyk, 32, of Manchester, N.H., an infraction for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana.

Warrant

Police said that they arrested Steven White, 44, of Clinton on a warrant on January 9 at Danbury Superior Court, charging him with sixth-degree larceny and conspiracy to commit larceny in connection with an incident that occurred in Newtown last June 27.

At his arraignment on January 9, White did not plead to the charges. He is scheduled to return to court on January 27. White is an inmate at Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Center in Uncasville, serving a sentence there in connection with a past conviction on other charges.

SUV Crash

Motorist Richard Lengel, 57, of 32 West Street was driving a 2002 Ford Explorer SUV southward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, about 5:30 pm on January 9, when a deer ran onto the roadway and collided with the vehicle, police report.

Neither Lengel nor two passengers were injured. Police took no enforcement.

Hawleyville Collision

Police report a thee-vehicle accident on Hawleyville Road at its intersection with Exit 9 for Interstate 84 at about 8 pm on January 9.

Police said that Theresa Kolwicz, 57, of Bethel was driving a 2008 United Parcel Service (UPS) box truck southward on Hawleyville Road, as motorist Shannon McDonald, 19, of 22 Taunton Ridge Road was driving a 2002 Chevrolet K-15 SUV northward on Hawleyville Road.

The UPS truck then attempted to make a left turn to enter I-84, resulting in the UPS truck and the Chevrolet colliding, police said.

The Chevrolet then crossed Hawleyville Road’s centerline and collided with a 2012 Honda CRV SUV driven by Julie Ann Friesl, 42, of 27 Whitewood Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Kolwicz received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Vandalism

Police report that sometime overnight on January 5–6, someone intentionally damaged two vehicles parked near a home on Owl Ridge Lane in Sandy Hook. The dead end Owl Ridge Lane extends from Fawnwood Road. In the incident, a tire and two automotive windows received damage. Police are investigating the criminal mischief and ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Off The Road

Motorist Radley Ramdhan, 25, of Jamaica, N.Y., was driving a 2005 Toyota Highlander SUV northward near 87 South Main Street about 4:30 am on January 10, when the vehicle went off the right road shoulder, struck a curb, hit a guardcable and then came to rest on a stone wall, police said.

Ramdhan was not injured. Police said Ramdhan was verbally warned for traveling too fast for conditions.

Barnabas Road

About 8 am on January 10, Nicholas Sabbagh, 23, of Danbury was driving a commercial 2000 Ford truck with a snowplow attached to it in a commercial driveway at 20 Barnabas Road, police said.

Sabbagh then backed up the truck, entering the northbound lane of Barnabas Road, resulting in a collision with motorist Albert Bonamici, Jr, 54, of 37 Tunnel Road, who was driving a 2008 Subaru Outback station wagon northward on Barnabas Road, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Sabbagh an infraction for unsafe backing.

Interstate Accident

State police report that motorist Alan Marcus, 50, of Danbury, who was driving a 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV eastward on Interstate 84 near the Tunnel Road overpass at about 8 am on January 6, slowed for traffic conditions, after which the Jeep was hit from behind by an unknown tractor-trailer truck.

Marcus was not injured. State police said they gave Marcus a written warning for failure to renew a vehicle registration.

Stolen Car

Police are investigating the theft of a blue 2006 Chevrolet Cobalt coupe from a property on Riverside Road near its intersection with Laurel Trail in the Riverside section of Sandy Hook. The vehicle has the Connecticut marker plate: 991-UGN. Police said the theft took place sometime between 9 pm on January 11 and 5 am on January 12. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Slippery Conditions

At about 6:50 am on January 10, motorist Jennifer P. Salinger, 31, of 68 Marlin Road was driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty SUV southward on Marlin Road and then attempted to stop at a stop sign on that street at its intersection with New Lebbon Road, but slid off the slippery road and struck a tree, police report.

Salinger was not injured. Police said they verbally warned her for traveling too fast for conditions.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant on her, Danielle Danka, 22, of 1 Crown View Drive went to the police station about 9:30 pm on January 13 and was charged with third-degree assault, police said.

 Police said the charge stems from their investigation into an incident that occurred at a gathering last April 15 at Upper Paugussett State Forest off Echo Valley Road.

Following processing, police released Danka on $500 bail for a January 28 court appearance.

Arrest Warrant

Police report that after being informed that they held a warrant for his arrest, Joseph Fellin, Jr, 18, of 10 Mile Hill Road South went to the police station about 10:24 pm on January 13 and was charged with failure to respond to an infraction.

Police said they charged Fellin with that offense because he had not responded to an infraction for illegal possession of alcohol by a minor, which he had received from police last July 7. That infraction carries a $136 fine.

Police said they released Fellin on $136 bail for a January 28 court appearance.

Two Charges

Police report that while on patrol at about 1:13 am on January 14, they stopped motorist Peter Filosi, 31, of Bethel to investigate near the intersection of Sugar Street and Elm Drive.

Police said they charged Filosi with failure to illuminate a rear marker plate and with driving under suspension.

Filosi was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 28, according to police.

Shoplifting Charge

Police said they responded to a report of a shoplifting incident that allegedly occurred at a gas station/convenience store at 62 Church Hill Road at about 2:50 am on January 16.

Police said that after investigating, they charged Krysta Sheets, 23, of 27 Mohawk Trail with sixth-degree larceny for allegedly stealing two packs of cigarettes.

Sheets was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 30.

Off The Road

About 8:30 am on January 15, motorist Valeria Leite, 43, of 82 Birch Hill Road, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Corolla sedan on an icy Taunton Lane, slid on the slippery pavement and struck a stone wall on the northbound road shoulder near 11 Taunton Lane, police said.

Leite was not injured. Police said they issued Leite a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Flagpole Intersection

A two-vehicle collision occurred at the flagpole intersection of Main Street, Church Hill Road, and West Street about 9:36 am on January 15.

Police report that motorist Allison Sicbaldi, 18, of Trumbull, who was driving a 2006 Nissan Sentra sedan northward on Main Street, stopped in order to let some vehicles make turns at the intersection.

Northbound trucker Ali Bejdadi, 26, of West Haven, who was driving a 2013 Freightliner Sprinter cargo van, then struck the rear end of the Nissan, police said.

There were no injuries. Bejdadi received a written warning for following too closely.

Multiple Charges

Police report that they made a motor vehicle stop midday on January 15 on Elm Drive to investigate. Police said they charged motorist Ryan Mangino, 30, of 57 Cedar Hill Road with traveling too fast and with failure to renew a vehicle registration.

Police said they learned of a warrant for Mangino, after which they charged him with failure to respond to an infraction, stemming from a past incident in which he had received an infraction for possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, but did not respond to that infraction.

Police said they released Mangino on $300 bail for a January 29 court appearance.
