June Activities At EverWonder Children's Museum Announced

Beginning Monday, June 13, EverWonder will be open on Mondays from 10 am to 5 pm.

Also starting June 13, STEAM Mondays will feature different summer inspired science, technology, art, and math activities. Admission for STEAM Mondays will be $12-$15 per child, and includes admission to the museum for the child. Parents will not be charged for participating in STEAM Mondays but, will be charged admission into the museum ($7 per person).

Story Lab for Young Explorers meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 am. This 30 minute program of STEM themed stories, activities, and crafts takes place in the EverWonder classroom. Parents must stay with their children during the program. Program is free with museum admission.

Tuesday, May 31-Sunday, June 26:

In Tissue Paper Painting Collages, young scientists will use tissue paper and paint to make beautiful collages.

In Engineering Challenges, young scientists will learn about the concept of design while completing different challenges.

*Friday, June 3, ongoing all day:

Calling all scientists! What happens when objects are emerged into salt water? Will an egg float or sink?

During Salt Water Density Experiment, young scientists will learn about density through placing objects of similar size, but different weight, into salt water and fresh water.

*Saturday, June 4, 10 am:

Calling all birders: join EverWonder's first drop-off Weekend Workshop.

Children ages 5 and up are invited to decorate their own EverWonder hybrid birdhouse. EverWonder's birdhouses are unique because they are both birdhouses and feeders.

Guests will first paint and decorate their birdhouses, and then attach bird seed to the roof of the birdhouse to make sustainable hybrid birdhouses.

Cost is $7 ($6 for EverWonder members), which does not include museum admission.

*Wednesday, June 8, ongoing all day: Science Lab:

Museum guests will move water from two cups into one cup without spilling a drop. Young scientists will learn about water absorption and distribution by watching two different cups of water combine through watching the water "walk" from each of the end cups into the middle cup.

*Saturday, June 11, ongoing all day:

The Connecticut Office of Tourism is sponsoring the 12th annual Connecticut Open House Day on Saturday, June 11th. The one-day statewide event is designed to showcase Connecticut's diverse world of history, art, and tourism.

In honor of Connecticut Open House Day, EverWonder will offer free admission 10 am until noon, and half-off museum admission from noon until 5 pm.

To qualify for any Open House Day special, at least one person in each visiting group must show a valid Connecticut driver's license.

*Tuesday, June 14, ongoing all day:

Children are invited to celebrate Flag Day by designing their own flag and learning about the history of the American flag.

*Friday, June 17, ongoing all day:

Young scientists will learn about refraction, using water as a magnifying glass to bend and reflect different images. By experimenting with refraction, the museum's guests will also learn about light rays and magnification.

*Sunday, June 19, ongoing all day:

Fathers will receive ½ off admission on Sunday, June 19. In addition, young artists will have the opportunity to make a Father's Day gift for dad while exploring the museum. Children can make hand cards by tracing both hands onto paper and then cutting them out and using accordion paper to write a special message to dad.

*Wednesday, June 22, ongoing all day:

Learn about the density of fruit versus the density of liquid. Guests will place fresh and dried fruit into fresh water and carbonated water, and then observe the fruit react to the different types of water.

Formed in January 2011 by a group of parents, EverWonder Children's Museum (incorporated as Newtown Children's Museum, Inc.) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring children and families in northern Fairfield County through the use of hands-on museum exhibits and demonstrations.

Located at 31 Pecks Lane in Newtown, the museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am-5 pm; and Sunday, 11 am-5 pm.

Regular admission is $7 for visitors over 1 year of age. Memberships and gift certificates are available for purchase.
