Quilts Continue

To Come From The Hearts —

And Hands — Of Talented Women

The members of Quilts from the Heart have remained busy. The quilting group meets weekly at Newtown Quilts in Sandy Hook.

Sandy Hook resident Lana Patane leads the group, which meets on Wednesday afternoons for what Mrs Patane describes as “an open house environment, so if people need or want help they can come in and get help from me and others.”

Julie Price, the owner of Newtown Quilts, has made the upstairs studio area at her shop available to the quilters for their work. The quilts were made from donated fabric and batting.

Since September, the quilters have made 12 quilts for the Danbury Regional Child Advocacy Center, another 25 for the Hole in The Wall Gang Camp in Ashford, and a Quilt of Valor that will be ready to present to a wounded war veteran by the final week of this month.

The Child Advocacy Center quilts were delivered for Christmas giving in December 2009, and the Hole in the Wall Gang quilts will be delivered this week in time for the first campers that arrive in early June.

The Quilt of Valor, called “Shining Stars of America,” was made by 11 members of the group. The quilt’s fifty stars are arranged in rows represent the 50 states. The four corner stars represent the four terror attack sites of 9/11: the World Trade Center I, World Trade Center II, The Pentagon and Shanksville, Penn. Eileen Barchi of Kindred Quilting in Sandy Hook graciously quilted the piece.

Quilters are welcome to contact Mrs Patane at 203-364-0014 or just drop in on a Wednesday afternoon. Newtown Quilts can be reached for additional information by calling 203-304-2041.
