Gaddis’s Natural Sculpture

Next At The Blue Z

Newtown resident and 2005 Newtown High School graduate Jessica Gaddis will be the next artist whose work is featured at The Blue Z Coffee House on South Main Street.

An opening reception is planned for Saturday, December 12, from 3 to 6 pm, and will include live jazz music. The work will remain on view all month.

Ms Gaddis was recently among the artists accepted into the first Juried Fine Art Exhibition hosted by The Housatonic Valley Cultural Alliance at Danbury Mall. The October show featured the art of nearly 50 area artists, and Ms Gaddis was present Best of Show Mixed Media Award for an untitled sculpture.

A 2009 graduate of SUNY New Paltz with a BFA in painting and drawing, her works are inspired by the natural world, said Ms Gaddis. “The phenomena of life should be an inspiration to us all. I play with micro/macro, asking the viewer to take a closer look at things, as well as take a step back,” she told The Bee in October.

“My more recent series, ‘salmon-nilla,’ is related to NASA’s space exploration of Saturn’s largest moon, Titan. Scientists had to redefine the definition of life when they discovered creatures living in caves without sunlight. ‘Salmo-nilla’ is my body of work where I have ‘traveled’ to Titan and gathered my own research of the environment and brought my findings back to earth to share. Really, I’m an artist who wishes I was a scientist,” Ms Gaddis said.

The Blue Z, at 127 South Main Street in Newtown, can be reached for additional information at 203-364-1003 or 203-364-0631.
