Tryouts for all sports, with the exception of football (Monday, August 15), begin on Thursday, August 25; further information and tryout dates will be provided by coaches on the first day. Athletes are asked to bring water to all tryouts.
All members of NHS teams must submit a Newtown High School Sports Participation Form to the coach on the first day of tryouts before he or she may try out for a team. This form may be found at
Among the required signatures on the Newtown High School Sports Participation Form is one from the school nurse. All members of NHS teams must have a complete physical examination before they may try out for a sport. The physical must be documented on the blue health form and is good for 13 months from the date on the form. The school nurse will be available on the following dates and times to sign participation forms:
*Monday, August 22, 9 am to noon.
*Tuesday, August 23, 9 am to noon.
*Wednesday, August 24, noon to 3 pm.
The pay-to-participate fee will be collected once the final teams have been selected. These fees are nonrefundable once a student-athlete is selected for a team. All checks should be made out to Newtown High School. Costs are as follows:
Cheerleading $150, cross country $150, dance $100, field hockey $200, football $200, girls' swimming $200, girls' volleyball $200, soccer $200.
There is a family cap of $450

Juniors and seniors from 10:30 am to noon and 12:30 to 2 pm.
Sophomores from 2:30 to 4 pm.
Freshman from 4 to 5:30 pm.

Thursday, August 25: All interested juniors and seniors should report to the NHS practice field behind the school for tryouts which will be held from 2:30 to 5 pm.
