A Ringing Success

For The Salvation Army

To the Editor:

Thank you, thank you all! The generosity of so many to the bell ringing efforts of the Newtown Service Unit of the Salvation Army was overwhelming this last December.

Our volunteers seemed like they couldn’t wait for this project to begin and the calls were coming in fast and furious to serve that our jobs were so easy! Fortunately, we didn’t encounter too much bad weather and everyone was out there ringing. Our heartfelt thanks to The Newtown Bee for their continued coverage once again and especially John Voket for his wonderful article.

The following businesses allowed us space for the kettles: Dunkin’ Donuts, Stop & Shop, Lexington Gardens, Yankee Discount Wine & Liquor, CVS, and Pizza Palace. Thank you all!

Sincere thanks to the following bell ringers. One Hour: Paul and Liz Arneth, Barbara and Howard Gorham, Barbara and Bill Webb, Alex Fraser, Kerry Brosnan, Kent Carpenter, Pete McNulty, Lincoln Sander, Bill Denlinger, John Christensen, Jim Cotter, Paul Kruger, Fred Stakel, Mathew Austin, Mark Carminucci, Dick Sturdevant, Jean Rau, Bill Brimmer, Bruce Landgrebe, Bob Alex, Bob Hall, Ed and Glenna Rees, Ray Keegan, Carol and George Mattegat, Gail Tamborino, Marilyn Alexander, Mary Edwards, Marge Eldridge, June and Artie McGroary, Sheila Gabrielli, Jean and Alison James, Terri, Hunter and Casey French, Frank Gardiner, Jason Hsu, Marie Smith, Robin Buchanan, Chuck and Jean Leety, Peg Daley, Bill Brett, Bob Shaw, Kim Dahm, Mae Schmidle, Charlie Godfrey, Dennis McLaughlin, Jane Sharpe, Mary Ann Bellinson, Al and Coke Cramer, Eugene Marks, Jerry Maturi, Donna and Joe Rahtelli, Linda Lubinski, Bill Timmel, Paul Lux, Evelyn and Bill Watts, John Klopfenstein, Milda and Bill Kolesar, John and Chris Reed, Joe Borst, Eve Donigan, Debbie Stakel, Jere Vockins, Barbara and Ken Bigham, Brandon Unger, Marie and Gary Difilapantonio, and Matt DeAngelis.

Two Hours: John Cochran, John O’Byrne, Betty Lincoln, Don Sharpe, Barbara and Billy Bloom, Steve Bennett, Diane and Fred Baumer and Jane Duffy.

Three Hours: Brenda Jo Locke.

The Newtown Lions Club, Newtown Rotary Club and the Men’s Fellowship Club of Newtown Congregational Church were great contributors of manpower this year. Thank you.

We also thank those who offered to ring if we got in a bind. What a comfort it was to know we had backup if necessary.

Taunton Press and its employees presented us with their usual generous donation of $1,000. A check was also received from Matt DeAngelis of Yankee Wine & Liquor for $500. We acknowledge with thanks the checks and donations of all of you individuals who know who you are. Time and space just doesn’t allow for us to name you all.

We realized a whopping $8,717.70! This is $350.08 more than last year. Your friends and neighbors in Newtown appreciate all of these donations, and we look forward to serving as many as we can. Thank you everyone! We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Very sincerely,

Marie and Dick Sturdevant
