Improving The Lives Of Animals

To the Editor:

I’d like to thank Nancy Crevier for her article on the multitude of egg labels that are available (“Cracking the Shell of Those Confusing Egg Designations,” April 13).

While egg labels can be confusing, consumers can know that biodynamic, organic, free-range, or cage-free eggs come from hens not confined in cages. Across the country, nearly 300 million laying hens are confined on factory farms inside barren, wire battery cages. They cannot spread their wings, perch, dust bathe, or even walk. Their lives are filled with suffering.

Simply by purchasing eggs with these labels instead of eggs from caged hens, we can improve the lives of animals.
