MONROE - Two Planks Theater Company will wrap its second full season this month with its final performance of 2015-16, The Foreigner.

The story of a depressed Englishman dropped in the middle of rural Georgia is a comedic romp, explains Two Planks Executive Director, Brooke Burling.

"The show is classic farce," Burling explained. "Through a series of misunderstandings - and a momentary slip of the tongue - all of the locals in a small Georgia town come to think that our hero is not only from another country, but also that he doesn't speak a word of English. The audience gets to be in on the secret, listening to the residents open their mouths and say things they otherwise would have preferred to keep private."

The play originally opened in New York in 1984, but most recently had an off-Broadway revival in 2004 with Matthew Broderick in the lead role of Charlie Baker.

For the Two Planks production, Charlie will be played by Jockey Hollow School music teacher Mike Martone, who heads the music program at the school. Mr Martone has been on stage in the past, including being classically trained as a opera singer, but his return to performance marks his first time joining Two Planks.

"The Foreigner is an excellent show," he said. "It has challenged me to escape from my comfort zone and has been a fantastic experience for me.

"It has moments that will appeal to all types of humor," Mr Martone continued. "From dry humor to physical comedy this show has it all. The play is wonderfully written, it has a can't-miss plot, and is certain to be a great experience for anyone who is seeing it."

Mr Martone is being joined on stage by regional actors from around southwestern Connecticut, including Antonietta Delli Carpini, Johnny Yagovane, Phillip Lorenzo, Phyllis Fabelinsky, Larry Pisani, and Robert Thomas Halliwell.

The Foreigner opens May 13 and runs for two weekends, through May 22. Curtain will be Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, with Sunday matinees at 5 pm.

Performances will be at the United Methodist Church, 515 Cutlers Farm Road in Monroe.

Tickets are $20 in advance, $25 at the door for adults; $15 and $20, respectively, for students and senior citizens.
