A radiology group affiliated with Danbury Hospital is scheduled to come to Newtown this year and move into the SCB Office park at 153 South Main Street.
Peter DâAmico, owner of the former Heise Dresser property, has confirmed that the new tenant will be occupying more than 8,000 square feet of the 40,000-square-foot building.
âWe are renovating the building for them but they are still waiting for specifications from the manufacturer of their [radiology] equipment before the work can begin,â Mr DâAmico said last week. âThe offices will be on the lower level of the building.â
Matthew DâAmico, who is coordinating the lease contract, said the radiology group will be known as Newtown Diagnostic Imaging and will be very welcome in the community.
âThere is nothing like this in the Newtown area that is convenient for local residents,â he said.
The project is slated to be completed sometime between July and November, he said.
âWe still have another 16,000 square feet available in the building and feel that it would be a good fit for other medical offices like physical therapy, primary care, and pediatrics,â he added.
Peter DâAmico, acting for SCB Limited Partnership LLC of Newtown, purchased the property for $1.74 million in 2002 and, after spending another $1.5 million in renovations, moved the headquarters of his business, Bulk Materials International, into the building. Bulk Materials uses about 3,500 square feet of the building space. Several other small financial and graphic services businesses also have moved into the building.
Constructed in 1961, the building was a manufacturing facility for precision pressure gauges that were used in the aerospace and ship building industries. After company founder Otto W. Heise died in 1972, his company was purchased by Dresser Industries, Inc, of Dallas, Texas. Dresser moved the Newtown operation to Shelton several years ago
