The Toy Tree, a fixture in Sandy Hook Center for nearly a decade for local toy and game purchases, relocated May 10 to 14 Church Hill Road in the plaza at the corner of Queen Street and Church Hill Road.

Owner Tracy Schmid and manager JoAnn Whiting are thrilled that the additional 300 square feet they now have, plus 12-foot ceilings, allows them to offer new lines of merchandise and expand popular lines, such as Legos, which they have always carried.

“We now have space for the line of Estes model rockets, Dunecraft, a gardening line for kids, and the Giving Keys jewelry line,” said Ms Schmid. She is particularly pleased to carry Giving Keys, a line of jewelry made by homeless people who are in transition. “It’s a kind of ‘pay it forward’ item,” Ms Schmid said, adding that other new products are being added every week.

Customers have responded very positively to the move, said the women. The airy feel, wider aisles, and more spacious layout makes shopping easier, and ample free parking right outside the door to the store is appreciated by all.

“[Customers] find it very convenient to have us in the center of Newtown,” Ms Whiting said.

Even though the new Toy Tree is larger, the women have worked to retain the familiar warm and cozy feel, said Ms Schmid.

A grand opening is scheduled for later this summer.

The Toy Tree is open Sunday, 11 am to 4 pm; Monday and Tuesday, 10 am to 5 pm; Wednesday and Thursday, 10 am to 6 pm; Friday, 10 am to 7 pm; and Saturday, 10 am to 6 pm. For more information call 203-270-8697.

The Toy Tree manager JoAnn Whiting and owner Tracy Schmid say customers are pleased with the recent relocation of the toy and game store to more spacious accommodations in the center of Newtown.
