Hobbies: I guess you could say I am a lifelong crafter. My grandmother taught me how to sew and knit when I was only 5 years old and my love of crafts has never stopped growing. I do counted cross stitch, make lace angels and clay âsculpieâ dolls, and I design jewelry, make canvas floor cloths, and I do scissor art, called scherenschnitzen.
Pets: Our family pet, Candy, is a 13-year-old cocker spaniel. She has brought us years of joy.
Organizations: Over the years, I have been involved at Trinity Church. I was a teacher at the church school, I have helped with membership development, and I ran a craft group. I have been a fundraiser and chairperson for Trinity Day School for six years, and I was a Girl Scout leader for Troop 143 when my daughter was in the fourth and fifth grades. Now I work with Troop 611 from Hawley School and Boy Scout Troop 70. I am currently involved with the Newtown High School band parents group. I also helped out with Showboat working backstage and in front selling tickets.
Most Vivid Newtown Memory: Getting married by candlelight 26 years ago in Trinity Episcopal Church was absolutely unforgettable. Other happy memories are marching in our Labor Day Parade and having a gathering at our home afterwards. Also attending many school plays, graduations, and sports and band events in which my children were involved. We helped build the Fun Space playground at Dickinson Park 16 years ago, and I just want to say ââ the swaying platform is mine!
The kindness of people in the Newtown community will always be my best memory. We had some rough times and the town lifted us up in many ways. It was overwhelming, a gift that will never be forgotten.
Favorite Vacation Spot: Although we have visited many places around the country, my favorite spot has always been my parentsâ home on Candlewood Lake.
Personal Philosophy: I believe we should give back to the world community, not only in money but also with time and talent. Life is short, so I try to make the world a better place. I try to make a difference.
