To the Editor:

I enthusiastically endorse Matt Cole for state representative for the 106th District.  Here’s why:

Matt grew up here in Newtown, and I know him and his family from Boy Scout Troop 70.  In 2005, we were fortunate to take our Troop to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. We hiked about 80 miles in the backcountry for two weeks.  For most boys that attend, Philmont is a premier event in their life.

Matt was unanimously elected our Crew Chief for that trip.  He built excellent rapport in our crew and with camp staff that we worked with.  That experience, seeing Matt lead a group of 12 scouts through physical and psychological challenges every day, gave me a unique picture of his spirit, energy and character.

Matt is running against Mitch Bolinsky for state representative.  I served with Mitch on the Board of Ethics, and he is a good man.

Yet there are many instances in the corporate world where it’s smart to hire a job candidate not based on experience and instant results, but instead with an eye towards who will be a superior contributor one or five years into the future. I’m certain that Matt Cole will be that person.

That’s why I’m voting forMatt, and I urge the people of Newtown to join me in doing so!

Sincerely,

Peter Van Buskirk
