Freshman Cerney Breaks Record As More Hawks Qualify For Postseason

Newtown High School’s girls’ and boys’ track and field teams competed in the second South-West Conference Developmental Meet of the season, at Wesleyan University in Middletown on January 18.

Several participants qualified for SWC and Class LL state championships. Freshman Reagan Cerney broke the school record in the 300 meters and John Wlasuk broke his own NHS shot put mark. Qualifiers are as follows:

Girls

55 Meter Dash

Reagan Cerney, 7.8. Qualified SWC/ Class LL

55 Hurdles

Lauren Pettinelli, 9.12.  SWC/ Class LL (improved time from last meet).

Melissa Buccino, 9.76.  SWC and Class LL

Melanie Isola, 10.10.  SWC and Class LL

Reagan Cerney, 44.15. SWC/ Class LL (improved time from last meet). Also set new record (old record was set by Pettinelli last year).
