All Newtown municipal offices, departments,and agencies will be closed Wednesday, December 14, from 9:30 to 9:45 am, for a brief period of silence and reflection in honor and remembrance of those killed on that day in 2012, at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

According to a memo from the Office of the First Selectman, "It is our mutual commitment that this event will never be forgotten and that we will honor those lost children and educators each and every year, to keep our memory alive with their presence... It is a time for us to remember those who were killed on that day, to offer up hopes and supportive thoughts for their families who still, and will forever, grieve their loss."

No work, phone, or activity will take place for municipal office workers during this respite. The public is asked respectfully to not enter the municipal spaces during these 15 minutes.

The Main Street and Municipal Center flags will be lowered to half-staff at sunrise on December 14, and remain so until sunset.
