Burglary

Sometime between 2:30 and 4:30 am on October 21, someone burglarized Swanky Franks of Newtown, a restaurant at 314 South Main Street. The burglary occurred at a window on the west side of the structure, police said. The eatery is located on the corner of South Main Street and Meadow Brook Road.

Nothing of significant value was taken, police said. Police are investigating the second-degree burglary and ask anyone with knowledge of the crime to contact investigating patrol Officer Todd Dingee at 426-5841.

Radio Missing

A portable two-way radio used for emergency fire communications owned by the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company is missing, police said.

The handheld radio, which is labeled as being owned by the fire company, was taken, possibly from a fire truck, sometime during June, police said.

The Motorola-brand radio is worth $830. Police ask anyone with information on the missing radio to contact them at 426-5841.

Breach of Peace

Following an incident at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street on the night of October 19, police said they charged Marisa Kempf, 19, of 18 Bentagrass Lane with breach of peace.

Police said they responded to the area following a complaint about a disturbance involving Kempf and another person.

After processing, police released Kempf from custody on $100 bail for an October 22 court appearance.

Antique Photos

A Rolodex-style photo album containing antique family photos was found along the side of the road at the intersection of Currituck Road and Main Street on October 13, according to police.

One of the photos is labeled “Sherwood Hall.” Police are holding the album for safekeeping.

The owner may claim it by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Assault Charge

Police report that during a football game held at the Newtown High School stadium on the night of October 20, Louis G. Reszoly, 45, of 5 Bridle Path Trail became involved in an altercation with another man whom police did not identify.

The dispute was not related to the football game, police said.

After investigating, police charged Reszoly with third-degree assault. Police released Reszoly from custody on a written promise to appear in court on November 6.

Locks Removed

 About 6 am October 20, police responded to Ricky’s Shopping Center at 71 South Main Street after receiving a report that someone had tampered with locks on some businesses’ doors there.

The locks for Ritz Camera and Butthead’s Tobacco Emporium had been pulled out of those businesses’ doors, police said. Police are investigating the incident.

Marijuana Charge

On the morning of October 18, some marijuana was found in the vehicle of a 17-year-old boy at Newtown High School, police report.

Police charged the youth with possession of less than four ounces of marijuana. The boy was then released into the custody of his grandfather for a November 2 appearance at Danbury Youthful Offender Court.

Because the youth is under age 18, state law shields his identity from public disclosure.

ATV Incident

After learning that police held warrants for their arrests, three Bridle Path Trail residents came to the police station on October 18 and were charged with various offenses, police said.

The arrests stem from an incident that occurred last August 11, police said.

Police charged both John Pearson, 40, and Lesley Pearson, 42, both of 14 Bridle Path Trail, each with driving an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on a public road, creating a public disturbance, and making excessive noise.

Police charged James Bauer, 44, of 7 Bridle Path Trail with disorderly conduct.

All three persons were released on written promises to appear October 25 in Danbury Superior Court, police said.

South Main Crash

At about 8 am on October 19, motorist Michelle Stellone, 26, of Schenectady, N.Y., who was driving a 2004 Buick Century southward near 182 South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions, after which she was struck from behind by motorist Maria Aguilar, 23, of Danbury, who was driving a 1995 Nissan Maxima, police said.

There were no injuries. Aguilar received an infraction ticket for following too closely and for driving without a license, police report.

Youthful Offender

Late on the morning of October 13, police responded to a two-vehicle collision on Main Street, in which the teenage girl whose vehicle was struck from behind provided police with a detailed description of the other teenage female driver and her vehicle. The offending driver had left the scene of the crash, according to police. There were no injuries.

Police said they went to the residence of the offending driver and found her damaged vehicle there. Police charged that driver with evading responsibility, failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, and failure to carry an automotive insurance card.

Police released the offending driver on $100 bail for an October 26 appearance in Danbury Youthful Offender Court. Because the person charged is under age 18, police did not disclose the person’s identity.

Chevrolet Vs Lexus

Police report a two-vehicle collision at the hazardous intersection of South Main Street and Country Club Road about 10:40 am October 19.

The accident involved motorist Russell Lynn, 73, of Danbury, who was driving a 1998 Chevrolet pickup truck, and motorist Peter Halka, 20, of Westport, who was driving a 2002 Lexus sedan, police said. There were no injuries.

Police issued Lynn a written warning for unsafe backing.

Main Street Accident

About 4:30 pm October 19, a two-vehicle collision occurred near 37 Main Street.

In that incident, southbound motorist Samantha Moser, 21, of Southbury, who was driving a 1997 Saturn SL-2 sedan, struck the rear end of a southbound 2007 Toyota Corolla driven by Roger Rowe, 59, of Cortland, N.Y., police said.

There were no injuries. Police issued Moser a written warning for traveling an unreasonable distance apart.

Hattertown Road

About 1:45 pm October 10, motorist Jean Marcelin, 54, of Stratford, who was driving a 2006 Lincoln limousine on Hattertown Road, slowed suddenly for a deer which had just been struck by another vehicle, police said.

Motorist Audrey Spencer, 85, of 201 Hattertown Road, who was driving a 1999 Saab 9-5 sedan, then struck the rear end of the Lincoln, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Spencer for following too closely.

Glen Road Collision

About 3 pm October 10, motorist G. MacNamara, 45, of Briarcliff Manor, N.Y., who was driving a 2000 Toyota Highlander northward near 64 Glen Road, stopped for a stopped school bus on the road, police said.

Northbound motorist Anna Lemmer, 76, of Southbury, who was driving a 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer, then struck the Toyota from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Lemmer for following too closely.

Four Charges

State police report that they stopped motorist Aleandro Gomez, 53, of Waterbury to investigate at about 4 pm on October 17 on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 11.

 State police charged Gomez with driving with a suspended license, misuse of marker plates, driving without automotive insurance, and driving an unregistered vehicle.

State police released Gomez on $1,500 bail for an October 29 court appearance.

Auto Off Interstate

About 11:45 pm October 20, motorist Darnell Ingram, 22, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 1998 Dodge Stratus westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, drove off the roadway, went down an embankment and entered a wooded area, state police said.

Newtown ambulance volunteers transported Ingram to Danbury Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, state police said. Ingram made three motor vehicle violations, according to state police.

Scanner Found

Police are holding for safekeeping a black handheld communications scanner which was found on Taunton Hill Road. Police received the scanner on October 13.

The owner may claim the scanner by contacting Sergeant Darlene Froehlich at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 426-5841.

Toddy Hill Road

About 2 am October 18, motorist Christine Dvornek, 21, of Danbury, who was driving a 2005 Hyundai Elantra eastward in fog near 159 Toddy Hill Road, crested a hill and then attempted to slow to turn left, but the auto went into a skid and went off the right side of the road, striking several objects and then becoming lodged against a tree, police said.

Police issued Dvornek a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Ford Vs Toyota

About 3:15 pm October 18, motorist Jana Draper, 63, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry southward on South Main Street, stopped to make a left turn into the driveway at 97 South Main Street, police said.

Southbound motorist Stephen Tarzanin, 19, of Monroe, who was driving a 2006 Ford Focus, then struck the Toyota from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Tarzanin received an infraction ticket for following too closely, police said.

 

Berkshire Road

Police report a two-car accident at the intersection of Berkshire Road and Toddy Hill Road about 2 pm October 19.

Motorist Jason Kostecki, 16, of 11 Founders Lane, who was driving a 2005 Dodge Neon southward on Berkshire Road, stopped for traffic conditions, police said.

Southbound motorist Vincent Deangelis, 16, of 12 Rockywood Drive, who was driving a 1996 Infiniti Q-45, then struck the Dodge from behind, police said. Police issued Deangelis a written warning for following too closely.
