Ryder Cup: Four teams of ten were chasing the Ryder Cup title. The tourney consisted for five 9 hole matches. Day one features Scramble, Pine-Hurst, and Alternate Shot, followed by Two man Best Ball and Singles on day two.
In the Scramble, Team Red (Mike Portnoy, Sean Patrick, Vinny Palumbo, John Dubraski, Pete Gialo, Jason Conlin, Lenny Calbo, Tony DiPerrio, Bob Tendler, and Rick Varnum) had a two shot lead over Team Navy (Frank Colavito, Steve Mais, Lou Rosamilia, Stephen Godino, Pete Spanedda, Jeff Fetchick, Chris DâAmico, Ed Sherrick, Ken Miller, and Dominic DiBella) and Team Royal (Mike Johnson, Joel Ratner, Joe Golden, Tim Rahr, Dean Harvey, Graham Fyffe, Ron Molles, Bob Houle, Tom Bartram, and Rob Merrifield.) after Scramble. Team Black (John OâConnor, Keith Kelly, Monty Singh, Eric Hanson, Len Calbo Sr, Ben Spragg, Charlie Merrifield, Rick Eaton, Art Weisgerber, and Tim Carr) was four back, but late charges from all teams in the other two formats saw a three-way tie for the lead with Team Black still four back.
On day two, Team Navy won three of five matches to take a 22 point total heading into Singles and a one point lead over Team Red, which won two crucial matches against Team Navy. Right on Navyâs tail was Team Royal with 20 points and Team Black with 17. Singles matches proved to be too much for the field as Team Navy tacked on 13 for a 35 point total to earn this yearâs championship. Second place went to Team Red with 32 points, third went to Team Royal with 29, and Team Black finished with 24 points.
