Track And Field Teams Have Standout Performances As Hawks Work Toward Postseason

With the postseason not far away - the South-West Conference championships are set to take place at the Floyd Little Athletic Center in New Haven on Saturday, February 4, beginning at 5 pm - Newtown High School's indoor track and field teams are tuning up during regular-season competition, including qualifying meets.

The Nighthawks had some standout performances in the South-West Conference Development Meet at Wesleyan University on January 16; the 35 Yale Interscholastic Track Classic in New Haven January 20 and 21; and the Southern Connecticut Conference Coaches Invitational at the Floyd Little Athletic Center, New Haven, on January 21.

Pole vaulter Lauren Russo cleared 11 feet to claim first in the Yale Classic, and Jack Godfrey came in fourth in the shot-put event with a throw of 46-09.50.

Standout performances in the SCC meet (the Nighthawk girls placed 11th as a team, and the boys were 40th) are as follows:

4x800 meter relay: 3. Lu Hage, Sarah Houle, Camille Johnson, and Madison Findley 10:28.15.

4x800: 7. Dylan Bartlett, Evan Hildenbrand, Riley Rising, and Joel Duval 9:06.01.

55 hurdles: 4. Makenna Cerney 9.58.

1000 meter: 8. Erin Tressler 3:16.46.

3200: 5. Hage 12:02.87.

Shot-put: 6. Marley Marston 33-09.50.

1600: 9. Duval 4:44.62.

High jump: 10. Zach Crebbin 5-08.
