St Rose Graduates Class Of 2001

Twenty-three eighth graders received their diplomas from Father Robert Weiss and Principal Donna DeLuca June 8 as they finished their time at the private Catholic School.

During the ceremony several awards were given out to students for their academic excellence.

The President’s Award for Academic Excellence is offered by President Bush and the Secretary of Education. It is given to those students who have achieved a minimum average of 90 percent, scored in the 85 percentile or above on national standardized tests, and have received their teachers’ recommendations. Three students received this award: Michael Corbeil, Adam Drummond, and Katie Murphy.

The President’s Award for Educational Improvement is given to recognize students who show outstanding educational performance or improvement, commitment, and intellectual development in their academic subjects. The following students were honored: Jonathan Cain, Lisa Dannen, Daniel Kearns, Daniel Kirk, Catherine O’Connor, and Kristen Troy.

The Excellence in Citizenship Award was given to Lisa Dannen. This award recognizes eighth grade students for active participation in civic community activities, excellent scholarship, and school involvement.

The Sister Julia Kelley Scholarship is awarded to one young man and one young woman from the class who exhibits outstanding qualities in both academic and non-academic areas. Kristen Troy and Kevin Byrne were the recipients.

The Father Stephen Opra Scholarship is awarded to a young woman and a young man who have demonstrated living faith and love of life through their actions and deeds. The recipients were Kristen Decesare and Adam Drummond.

Katie Murphy was awarded the Charles Weiss Memorial Scholarship. It is given to a St Rose graduate in memory of Charles Weiss, father of Father Bob Weiss, pastor. This award is given to a student who has demonstrated the characteristics that “Charlie” exemplified: selflessness, industriousness, conscientiousness, dedication, and joy in serving others.

Subject awards were also given to students who had the highest average in a particular subject. Recipients include: Algebra – Katie Murphy; Science – Katie Murphy and Adam Drummond; History – Katie Murphy and Adam Drummond; Language Arts – Katie Murphy; French – Katie Murphy; and Religion – Katie Murphy and Kristen Troy.

St Rose Class of 2001 graduates include Shane Blomberg, Kevin Byrne, Jonathan Cain, Sean Canfield, Michael Corbeil, Matthew Dalling, Lisa Dannen, Kristen Decesare, Adam Drummond, Jessica Gaddis, Jamie Gianokos, Daniel Kearns, Daniel Kirk, Connor Maloney, Stephen Mason, Daniel Mortenson, Kathleen Murphy, Catherine O’Connor, Kevin Pheasey, Kevin Quinn, Lisa Romano, Kristen Troy, and Amie Walston.

Co-presidents of the student council Katie Murphy and Adam Drummond gave a speech remembering their years at St Rose and thanked parents, teachers, and their friends for supporting the class.
