Police Reports, October 15-27, 2014
I-84 DUI
State police report that at about 1:37 am on October 21, they stopped motorist Jose Torres, 24, of Danbury on westbound Interstate 84, east of Exit 9, to investigate.
State police said they charged Torres with driving under the influence, failure to drive in the proper lane, and driving without a license.
After processing, state police released Torres on $500 bail for a November 6 court appearance.
Burglary Arrest
Police report that on the morning of October 23, they went to Danbury Superior Court and charged Israel Reyes, 40, of Bridgeport on a warrant, arresting him on a count of third-degree burglary.
Police said the charge stems from an April 1, 2011, incident in Newtown.
Reyes was arraigned on the charge in court but did not plead. He is scheduled to return to court on November 12.
Reyes is serving a 30-month sentence at the state’s Corrigan-Radgowski Correctional Institution in Uncasville on a first-degree assault conviction.
Assault Charge
Police report that at about 3:30 pm on October 18, they were called to a residential property on Mt Pleasant Road near the Bethel town line for a report of a physical fight.
After investigating, police charged Kurt Jennings, 52, of Shelton with third-degree assault and breach of peace.
An unidentified male victim was transported to Danbury Hospital to be treated for injuries, police said.
Following arrest processing, Jennings was released on $1,000 bail for a November 4 appearance in Danbury Superior Court, according to police.
Three Juveniles
Police report they lodged drug charges against three youths under age 18 following an incident about 3:20 pm on October 18 on South Main Street, near Mile Hill Road.
Police said they stopped a motorist who had driven through a red traffic signal, after which they verbally warned the driver for failure to obey a traffic control signal.
Additionally, police said they charged the driver and each of two passengers in the vehicle with possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana and with possession of drug paraphernalia.
Because all of the three people involved in the incident are under age 18, police did not disclose their identities.
Each of the three youths was released into the custody of their parents. Each of the three was released on written promises to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court to answer the charges.
When a person under age 18 is charged with possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, a juvenile summons is issued to them, requiring an appearance in Juvenile Court.
Botsford Accident
At about 1:45 am on October 26, motorist Candace Johnson, 29, of South Hadley, Mass., was driving a 2008 Honda Civic sedan southward on Botsford Hill Road, near its intersection with Swamp Road, when the auto drove across the northbound lane and then struck a utility pole on the left road shoulder, according to police.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Johnson to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Johnson was verbally warned for a travel lane violation, police said.
Berkshire Road Crash
Motorist Alfred Capozziello, 25, of Ansonia was driving a 2003 Volvo S-60 sedan eastward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Jordan Hill Road, about 10:11 pm on October 21, when he made an evasive maneuver on the wet roadway, but then lost control of the vehicle while on a curve and slid off the right road shoulder, striking two trees, police said.
Capozziello was not injured. Police said they verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.
Main Street Collision
A two-vehicle accident occurred in front of Booth Library at 25 Main Street at about 2:30 pm on October 15, police report.
Motorist Mary Ann Reid, 75, of Stratford was driving a 1998 Subaru Legacy station wagon southward on Main Street, as motorist Tracy Rote, 29, of Putnam Valley, N.Y., who was driving a 2007 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, attempted to exit a library driveway and make a left turn to travel northward on Main Street, police said.
The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Rote a written warning for a right-of-way violation.
Volvo Off Road
Motorist Lawrence Cavanagh, 77, of 42 Greenleaf Farms Road was driving a 2010 Volvo S-80 sedan southward on Poverty Hollow Road, just north of its intersection with Flat Swamp Road, about 3:45 pm on October 20, when the vehicle traveled off the northbound road shoulder, entered a ditch and then struck some rocks, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Cavanagh for failure to maintain the travel lane.
Embankment
Police report that at about 7:45 pm on October 19, motorist Matthew DeFazio, 25, of Wappingers Falls, N.Y., was driving a 2008 Subaru Impreza station wagon on Botsford Hill Road, near the Housatonic Railroad overpass, when the vehicle went out of control and then struck an earthen embankment.
There were no injuries. DeFazio received a written warning for making a restricted turn, police said.
Taunton Crash
Motorist Kevin Kohn, 26, of 25 Taunton Lake Road was driving a 1995 Buick Riviera coupe southward on Saw Mill Road, near its intersection with Irvin Lane, about 6:18 pm on October 23, when he saw a deer on the roadway and then turned to the right to avoid it, but lost control of the vehicle and entered a ditch along the right road shoulder, knocking over three guardposts, police said.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Kohn a written warning for making a restricted turn and for traveling too fast for conditions.
Berkshire Road Mishap
According to a police report, motorist Juan Torres, 32, of Derby was driving a 2000 Lexus RX-300 SUV westward on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Zoar Road, at about 10:40 pm on October 23, when the vehicle slid on wet pavement, crossed the road and then struck some curbing along the left road shoulder.
There were no injuries. Torres received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions, police report.
Intersection Collision
Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road about 3:18 pm on October 20.
In that incident, motorist Megan Rizzo, 31, of Stratford, who was driving a 2011 Honda Civic sedan eastward on Wasserman Way, struck the rear end of a 2003 Dodge Caravan minivan driven by motorist David Orozco Diaz, 55, of Alexandria, Va., police said.
There were no injuries. Rizzo received a written warning for failure to drive reasonable distance apart, according to police.
Sandy Hook Center
A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Church Hill Road, Washington Avenue, Riverside Road, and Glen Road in Sandy Hook Center about 4:40 pm on October 17.
The collision involved motorist Mary Austin, 57, of Woodbury, who was driving a 2009 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, and motorist John DelRossi, 17, of 68 Tomahawk Trail, who was driving a 2013 Kia Optima sedan, police report.
There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Austin for failure to grant the right of way.
Nissan vs Chrysler
A two-vehicle collision occurred at the intersection of Old Green Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road about 11:15 am on October 25.
Police said motorist Jose Arpi, 43, of Danbury was driving a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country minivan southward on Old Green Road.
When the Chrysler reached Old Green Road’s intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road, the Chrysler was struck from behind by motorist Carly Goeller, 23, of 7 Valley Field Road South, who was driving a 2011 Nissan Rogue SUV, according to police.
Arpi reported soreness as a result of the collision, police said. Police report they issued Goeller a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Jordan Hill Road
At about 7:43 am on October 25, motorist Abbey Saia, 16, of Monroe was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry sedan northward on Jordan Hill Road, when the vehicle drifted to the right and then struck a curb, police said.
The Toyota then went off the road and struck several rocks, coming to rest with its right side on a rock, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Saia a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Botsford Crash
Police said that motorist Suzanne Levasseur, 51, of 2 Elana Lane was driving a 2013 Nissan Juke SUV westward on Botsford Hill Road about 8:10 am on October 27 and then stopped, after which westbound motorist Eric Kerslake, 19, of 19 Misty Vale Road, who was driving a 2012 Nissan Altima sedan, struck the rear end of the Juke.
There were no injuries. Police said Kerslake received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Mt Pleasant Road
About 6:19 pm on October 27, motorist Tara Nicholson, 41, of 15 Juniper Road was driving a 2008 Mazda CX-9 SUV eastward on Mt Pleasant Road, near Tory Lane, when a deer ran out onto the road, resulting in a collision, police report. Nicholson was not injured. Police took no enforcement.
School Bus
Police report that John Cross, 71, of 192 Hattertown Road was driving a 2013 Blue Bird school bus carrying an unspecified number of students southward on Gopher Road, near Brennan Road, at about 3:25 pm on October 27, when the bus struck a parked, unoccupied 1985 Mack truck owned by CW Canfield Excavating LLC, of Danbury.
The school bus is owned by All Star Transportation LLC of Waterbury.
The were no injuries. Police said the unidentified driver of the Mack truck received a verbal warning for illegal parking.
