Emily Anne Timmel and Yariv Alpher were married April 17 by close family friend Deacon Joseph Filingeri of St Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Shelton and Rabbi Peter Schweitzer of Manhattan at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden in Brooklyn, N.Y.
The bride is the daughter of William and Caryl Timmel of Riverside Road, Sandy Hook. The bridegroom is the son of Joseph and Irene Alpher of Ramat Hasharon, Israel.
The coupleâs siblings Ted, Rebecca, and Chris Timmel and Roger and Daniella Alpher held the coupleâs wedding canopy. Meredith Loveless, Saskia Fredericks, and Renee Iannacone, the brideâs high school friends, and Emilia LoGrasso, the brideâs grandmother, participated in the ceremony as did the groomâs friend, Ashley Olstad, sister-in-law, Yael Aharonov, and grandmother, Felina Ehrlich.
The coupleâs aunts, Dr Joanne Timmel and Mrs Jane Cochran, recited readings.
Noga Alpher, the groomâs niece, and Emalie Brannigan and Grace Costantini, the brideâs cousins, were flower girls. Nephew of the groom, Yotam Alpher, was the ring bearer.
A reception followed at the Palm House at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden.
Ms Timmel and Mr Alpher met at University of Chicago from which they received masterâs degrees, he in history and she in anthropology.
A graduate of Newtown High School, the bride is currently a doctoral candidate in anthropology and education at Columbia Teachers College. She is an exhibit developer at Brooklyn Childrenâs Museum.
The bridegroom graduated from Tel Aviv University with a bachelorâs of arts in history and philosophy and is a doctoral candidate in sociology at New School University. He is senior project manager at Insight Research, a market research firm in Manhattan.
The couple enjoyed a wedding trip to Crete and now live in Brooklyn, N.Y.
