Aikido Partnership Announced
Aikibuokan of Connecticut and Sensei James Cobb of Newtown have announced a new partnership with Club NewFit at 23 Commerce Road. Sensei Cobb will kick off his new local collaboration with a demonstration of Aikido at the club on Saturday, February 2.Â
At 3 pm Sensei Cobb and his students will be demonstrating this martial artsâ discipline, explaining its benefits and the differences between Aikido and other martial art forms.
Often described as among the most elegant of the martial arts, Aikido literally translated means Ai (harmony), Ki (spirit) and Do (way). It is known as the Art of Peace because there are no offensive techniques in Aikido.
According to the Sensei, Aikido is about training the whole person in the art of peace.
âIt is certainly an answer to the amount of violence to which our children are exposed. There is enough violence in the world,â said Sensei Cobb. âI donât want to teach people how to be violent. I do want to teach them how to protect themselves from unprovoked attacks by scurrilous people.â
