Police Reports, May 23-June 23, 2015
DUI Incident
Police report that at about 6 pm on June 22, they received a report that a motorist who was driving a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV in a commercial parking lot on Queen Street, had backed into a parked unoccupied 2013 Lexus GS-350 sedan, damaging the Lexus, and then drove away from the scene.
Police said they investigated the complaint and then located the Jeep’s driver, Linda Sorensen, 67, of 40 Greenleaf Farms Road, at her home.
Police said they charged Sorensen with driving under the influence, evading responsibility, and unsafe backing. After processing, police released her on $250 bail for a July 7 court appearance.
Berkshire Crash
Police report a two-vehicle accident on Berkshire Road, near Wasserman Way, about 6:10 pm on June 17.
Police said motorist Jeffrey Borek, 54, of Sherman was driving a 2004 Dodge Dakota pickup truck eastward on Berkshire Road and then stopped for heavy traffic conditions, after which eastbound motorist Victoria Theobald, 21, of Southbury, who was driving a 1999 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, drove into the rear end of the Dodge.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Theobald a written warning for following too closely.
DUI Arrest
Police report that motorist William Decker, 43, of 131 High Rock Road approached a police officer, who was stationed to direct traffic at the intersection of Botsford Hill Road, Toddy Hill Road, and Button Shop Road, at about 5:40 pm on June 20 in order to ask for travel directions, after which police investigated and charged Decker with driving under the influence.
After processing, police released Decker on $500 bail for a July 9 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Main Street Crash
Police said that at about 9:56 am on June 21 near 23 Main Street, motorist Suzanne Roman, 52, of 7 Taunton Lake Road, who was driving a 2009 Honda Fit subcompact, entered the southbound lane of Main Street from a parked position and then collided with southbound motorist Kimberly Stendahl, 55, of 9 Hanover Road, who was driving a 2011 Lexus RX-350 SUV.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Roman an infraction for unsafe movement.
Juvenile Charged
Police report that on June 12, they arrested a 17-year-old boy at a Mile Hill Road South residence on charges of sixth-degree larceny and third-degree forgery because he had allegedly signed some checks without authorization.
Police said they issued the boy a juvenile summons, requiring his appearance at Danbury Juvenile Court to answer the charges. Because the person charged is under age 18, police did not disclose the boy’s identity.
Intersection Accident
A two-vehicle accident occurred about 3 pm on June 17 at the intersection of Schoolhouse Hill Road and Walnut Tree Hill Road.
Police said that after leaving the stop sign on eastbound Schoolhouse Hill Road, motorist Emma Rose Lloyd, 18, of 24 Pepperidge Road, who was driving a 2003 Pontiac Grand Am, entered the intersection, colliding with motorist Ryan Marron, 17, of 2 Farmery Lane, who was driving a 2011 Mazda MPV minivan southward on Walnut Tree Hill Road.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Lloyd a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.
I-84 Ramp
State police report that at about 5 pm on June 20, motorist Dongsup Andrew Hyeon, 21, of 31 Mountain Manor Road, who was driving a 2007 Acura MDX SUV, lost control of the vehicle on the Exit 10 on-ramp for eastbound Interstate 84 and then struck some guardcabling along the right road shoulder.
There were no injuries. State police said they issued Hyeon an infraction for failure to maintain the travel lane.
Interstate Crash
State police said that motorist Raymond J. Binkowski, 33, of Brookfield was driving a 2004 Honda Accord westward on Interstate 84, west of Exit 9, at about 12:44 am on June 20, when he became involved in an accident.
State police said Binkowski told them that he drove to the left to avoid a deer, but then struck some guardrailing on the highway median.
There were no injuries. State police said they issued Binkowski an infraction for a travel lane violation.
Automotive Key
Police said this week they are still seeking the owner of an automotive key that was found on May 23 at Fairfield Hills in the area near Cochran House and the youth baseball fields. The key is black and has a two-sided clip-hook attached to it. The owner may contact Officer Benjamin Mulhall at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203 426-5841, to claim the lost key.
Hawleyville Collision
At about 9:22 am on June 22, motorist Lisa Emmerson, 34, of Brookfield, who was driving a 2004 Volkswagen Jetta sedan southward on Hawleyville Road, slowed and then stopped in preparing to make a left turn into a commercial driveway at 26 Hawleyville Road, after which the Volkswagen was struck from behind by southbound motorist Patrick Cook, 51, of 17 Patricia Lane, who was driving a 2015 Nissan Frontier pickup truck, according to police.
There were no injuries. Police said they issued Cook a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Tractor-Trailer
Police report that Quinn Lee Wright, 35, of Springfield, Mass., was driving a 1998 Mack tractor-trailer truck southward on Queen Street at about 3:20 pm on June 11, and then decided to turn around.
Wright attempted to turn the truck around at the T-shaped intersection of Queen Street and Borough Lane, but in doing so, Wright smashed into a stop sign posted on Borough Lane, police said.
Wright then headed northward on Queen Street and drove through the stop sign posted at Queen Street’s intersection with Glover Avenue, police said.
Police stopped the trucker to investigate and then issued Wright an infraction for making a restricted turn and for failure to obey a stop sign.
Snapchat Case
After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, a boy went to the police station on June 23 and was charged with second-degree harassment, police said.
Police said the arrest stems from the use of Snapchat, which is a video messaging application on the Internet.
The school resource officer for Newtown High School received a complaint on March 12, which prompted the investigation that resulted in the boy’s arrest, police said.
Police issued the boy a juvenile summons and placed him in his father’s custody for a July 6 appearance in Danbury Juvenile Court to answer the charge.
Because the person charged is under age 18, police did not disclose an identity.
