C. Marina Marchese, founder and owner of Red Bee Honey, will be the featured speaker at the upcoming meeting of the Garden Club of Newtown on Tuesday, April 28, at 1 pm, at C.H. Booth Library, 25 Main Street.

Ms Marchese, a beekeeper, lecturer and author, will discuss her book Honeybee: Lessons from an Accidental Beekeeper as well as a book she co-authored with Kim Flottum entitled The Honey Connoisseur: Selecting, Tasting and Pairing Honey.

The founder of The American Honey Tasting Society and a past president and board member of the Backyard Bee Keepers Association of Connecticut, Ms Marchese is an expert on single-origin honey. She will present information on how bees make honey and the concept of “terroir,” which influences the taste of varietal honey.

She will also conduct a honey tasting with instruction regarding how to taste, select and use a diverse selection of honey, some of which will be for sale at the meeting.

Ms Marchese received her training from the Italian Registry of Experts in the Sensory Analysis of Honey.

For those choosing to purchase one of her books, Ms Marchese will be available for book signing at the conclusion of her program.

This fun, interesting and informative program will take place in the Olga Knoepke Meeting Room, on the first floor of the library. The public is welcome; there is a guest fee of $5 for non-members of the club.

Registration is not required, but additional information is available by sending email to marilynn.gardener@yahoo.com or calling 203-775-7063.
