Police are investigating an incident in which a shoplifter stole approximately $650 worth of shrimp from the Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza at 228 South Main Street (Route 25).

Police said the man entered the supermarket about 6:15 am on Saturday, August 8, shortly after the store opened for business. Based on surveillance photos, the man was carrying a blue bag, which he apparently used to conceal the shrimp before stealing it.

The man is described as being white, having a thin build and a full, dark beard, and wearing a NY Yankees baseball cap. Police estimate the man is in his early 20s.

The silver-gray auto which the man drove from the store is believed to have marker plates starting with the numbers 2-4-4, police said.

The store theft represents fifth-degree larceny.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact investigating Officer Adam James at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Newtown Police Department will be taking a no-excuses approach to seatbelt law enforcement, writing citations day and night, during the current Click It Or Ticket seatbelt use campaign.
