Farrington Carvings At Audubon Museum

FAIRFIELD — The Fairfield Arts Council (FAC) and Connecticut Audubon Birdcraft Museum are co-hosting an exhibit by Fairfield bird carver David Farrington. The exhibit, at the Connecticut Audubon Birdcraft Gallery, will open with a reception on Sunday, May 2, from 3 to 5 pm, and will then run until Sunday, June 27.

Mr Farrington started carving birds in the fall of 1978. In March 1979, he entered his first bird, a Hen Bufflehead, in the US National Decoy show in Long Island. He received a second place award.

That same year, he entered the World Show in Ocean City, Md., with a Drake Golden Eye and received his first blue ribbon.

Over the succeeding years he has entered many shows around the country and has received many ribbons. Mr Farrington has lived in Fairfield for more than 40 years with his wife Ann.

In recent years, Mr Farrington has started to work on smoothie birds. These are birds which have the detail feather work panted rather than carved in to the wood. At the World Show in 2001 he won 2nd Best of Show with his smoothie shore bird.

Connecticut Audubon Birdcraft Gallery is at 314 Unquowa Road. Gallery hours are Tuesday to Friday from 10 am to 5 pm, and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 5 pm. For more information call Fairfield Arts Council at 203-319-1419.
