Catherine      Hanlon Knapp

Catherine Hanlon Knapp, 95, 71-year resident of Berkshire Road, Sandy Hook, died May 27 at her home. Mrs Knapp was the wife of the late Edward E. Knapp who was Newtown Judge of Probate.

Mrs Knapp is survived by a son, Robert W. Knapp of Sandy Hook; ten grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by three children, James E. Knapp, Edward H. Knapp, and Elaine Knapp; and 15 brothers and sisters.

She was born in Pound Ridge, N.Y., on January 6, 1910, a daughter of the late William A. and Alice (Hitt) Hanlon. Catherine moved to Sandy Hook with her family in 1911 and attended Zoar School in Sandy Hook and Hawley School in Newtown. She started working for Curtis Box in 1927 and retired in 1994.

Mrs Knapp was a lifetime member of St John’s Church in Sandy Hook and was a life member of the Mirah Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and VFW Post 308 Auxiliary.

Catherine was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all.

Funeral Services were held June 2 in St John’s Episcopal Church, Sandy Hook. Burial followed in Zoar Cemetery.
