Ford vs Guardrails

At about 1 pm on May 15, motorist Emily Lane, 23, of Rockport, Maine, was driving a 2001 Ford vehicle eastward on Interstate 84, east of Exit 10, when, to avoid striking some vehicles in front of her, she swerved to the left and then struck the median guardrail, state police said.

There were no injuries. State police verbally warned Lane for making an unsafe lane change.

Intersection Accident

Police report an accident at the four-way intersection of Hattertown Road, Key Rock Road, and Poverty Hollow Road about 5 pm on May 16.

The collision involved motorist Deborah LaFlamme, 64, of 10 Arlyn Ridge Road, who was driving a 2008 Toyota Highlander SUV, and motorist Paul Taylor, 58, of 5 South Main Street, who was driving a 2013 Toyota Corolla, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police report LaFlamme received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

Church Hill Road

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Church Hill Road and Commerce Road about 12:54 pm on May 18.

Michael Lemoine, 48, of Monroe, who was driving a commercial 2013 GMC Sierra pickup truck eastward on Church Hill Road, stopped for a red traffic signal, after which the GMC was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Marie Pompa, 77, of 29 St George Place, who was driving a 2015 Toyota Camry sedan, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they verbally warned Pompa for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Intersection Crash

About 5:27 pm on May 18, motorist Craig Harris, 55, of 95 Forest Drive, who was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck eastward on Hawley Road, stopped for a stop sign and then entered South Main Street, where motorist Joseph Murphy Ray, 21, of Fort Plain, N.Y., was driving a 2012 Volkswagen Passat northward, police said.

The two vehicles collided. There were no injuries. Harris received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign, police said.

Subaru vs Dodge

Police report a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Church Hill Road and the ramps at the Exit 10 interchange for Interstate 84 at about 6 pm on May 19.

Police said the collision involved motorist Pamela Fischer, 61, of Branford, who was driving a 2015 Subaru Impreza, and motorist Heidi Gendron, 40, of Southbury, who was driving a 2008 Dodge Avenger.

There were no injuries. Police said Fischer failed to drive in the proper lane.

Interstate Collision

In congested, slow-moving traffic on eastbound Interstate 84 about 6:30 pm on May 19, motorist Walter Pitt, 37, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2013 Nissan Juke SUV, struck the rear end of a 2013 Honda Accord driven by Shane Kuroski, 27, of Southbury, state police said.

There were no injuries. Pitt received an infraction for following too closely.

Minivan vs Minivan

Motorist Sonja Haskel, 74, of 3 Tamarack Road, who was driving a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, was stopped and waiting for traffic on eastbound Berkshire Road at its intersection with Toddy Hill Road at about 10:11 am on May 20, when that minivan was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Wayne Perrotti, 54, of 16 Nunnawauk Road, who was driving a 2008 Chrysler Town & Country minivan, police said. There were no injuries.

Botsford Accident

Police report an accident involving a motorcycle and a minivan in Botsford about 12:18 pm on May 20.

In that incident, motorist Catherine Hydeck, 56, of 5 Pastors Walk, who was driving a 2014 Dodge Caravan minivan eastward on Blue Spruce Road, stopped at a sign at that road's intersection with South Main Street, police said.

At that time, motorcyclist Ronald Tyler, 64, of 1 Red River Lane, was riding a 2013 Yamaha XV-1900 southward on South Main Street, police said.

The minivan then entered South Main Street, after which the motorcyclist lost control of the motorcycle while attempting to avoid a collision, police said. The motorcyclist then dropped the motorcycle onto the ground, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members and Botsford volunteer firefighters responded to the accident. The ambulance did not transport the motorcyclist, police said.

Police said they issued Hydeck a written warning for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign.

Sedans Collide

About 2:52 pm on May 20, a two-vehicle collision occurred on South Main Street, near Bryan Lane.

Motorist Janice Bernard, 70, of 1 Settlers Lane was driving a 2009 Hyundai Sonata southward, as motorist Hok Chan, 55, of Bridgeport was driving a 2008 Lexus IS-250 northward, police said.

The Hyundai then crossed into the opposite lane and struck the Lexus, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Bernard to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Ambulance staffers treated and released Chan at the scene, police said.

Botsford volunteer firefighters went to the accident. The accident is under investigation, police said.

Intersection Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the four-way intersection of Taunton Hill Road, Plumtrees Road, and Great Hill Road about 6:24 pm on May 20. Each leg of that intersection is controlled by a stop sign.

Motorist Robin Lynn Reed-Baylis, 51, of 10 Winslow Road, who was driving a 2008 Honda CR-V SUV, approached the intersection while eastward on Plumtrees Road, and motorist Michael Iorfino, 51, of 1 Wedgewood Court, who was driving a 2014 Hyundai Elantra, approached the intersection while northward on Taunton Hill Road, police said.

The two vehicles then collided in the intersection. There were no injuries.

It is unclear who reached the intersection first and thus had the right of way, so police took no enforcement.

I-84 DUI

State police said they responded to a medical call on eastbound Interstate 84, near Exit 10, about 6:51 pm on May 20 and found a vehicle parked on the median with its engine running and an unresponsive person sitting in the driver's seat, so they investigated.

State police said they charged Iola Mayfield, 57, of Danbury with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.

Mayfield was released on $500 bail for a May 31 court appearance.

Sugar Street Accident

At about 12:21 pm on May 21 on eastbound Sugar Street about 140 feet west of South Main Street, motorist Sherry Chapman, 45, of 4 Knollwood Drive, who was driving a 2011 Chevrolet Traverse SUV, stopped for traffic conditions after which motorist Helen Sandifer, 23, of 3 Juniper Road, who was driving a 2008 Mercedes-Benz ML-350 SUV, attempted to the pass the Chevrolet, police said.

The Mercedes struck the Chevrolet. There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Sandifer for improper passing.

Highway Crash

At about 7:37 am on May 22, motorist Kyle Ryen, 19, of New Fairfield, who was driving a 2005 Toyota Camry sedan on Interstate 84's Exit 11 off-ramp, encountered a sweeping curve to the right, but failed to negotiate it and spun out, striking a traffic sign, state police said.

Ryen was not injured. Ryen received a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Hattertown Vandalism

Police said they are investigating a vandalism incident near the northern end of Hattertown Road in Dodgingtown.

Police said that two males who were wearing all black clothing were spotted walking in that area at about 9:30 pm on May 23. Police ask anyone with pertinent information on the matter to contact investigating Officer Paula Wickman at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Scott Peterson, 46, of 16 Sugar Street went to the police station about 12:40 pm on May 24 and was charged with one count of third-degree larceny, police said.

Police said the arrest stems from their investigation into a March incident. After processing, police released Peterson on $1,000 bail for a June 9 court appearance.

Castle Hill Vandalism

Police report that vandalism occurred sometime between 10 pm on May 24, and 9:30 am on May 25 in the Old Castle Drive/Cornfield Ridge Road neighborhood.

The vandal or vandals damaged several curbside mailboxes, street signs and in-ground lighting fixtures, police said. Also, a vehicle was driven across lawns in that area.

Police ask anyone with knowledge on the matter to contact investigating Officer John McCluskey at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Wasserman Way

A two-vehicle accident occurred on Wasserman Way, near the Exit 11 commuter parking lot about 9 am on May 25.

In that incident, motorist Maya Leito, 19, of Danbury, who was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt, struck the rear end of a 2012 Honda CR-V SUV driven by Richard Grosner, 70, of Fairfield, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the accident but made no transport. Police said they issued Leito an infraction for following too closely.

Burglary

Police said they responded about 4:26 pm on May 25 to a report that a burglary-in-progress had been interrupted on Jacobs Lane. The burglar fled the scene in a vehicle after being discovered.

Police said they stopped the vehicle in question on South Main Street near Sand Hill Plaza, after which they investigated and charged Christopher Braun, 33, of Brookfield with third-degree burglary, second-degree criminal trespassing, second-degree criminal mischief, conspiracy to commit third-degree larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police said they turned over Braun to state parole officials. Braun was scheduled to be arraigned in court on May 26.
