Harry A. Escoda
Harry A. Escoda, 89, of Naples, Fla., and formerly of Elmont, N.Y., died March 20, surrounded by adoring family. He was born March 8, 1927, in South Ozone Park, N.Y., and was the son of the late Mary and Joseph Escoda.www.collierhonorflight.org, or to Avow Hospice at www.avowcares.org.
He leaves behind his wife of 64 years, Lorraine; five children and their spouses, Gary and Dawn Escoda of Sandy Hook, Dianne and Frank Mezzadri of Orchard Park, N.Y., Brian and Laura Escoda of Islip, N.Y., and Gail Escoda Drayson and Laurie Escoda, both of Jupiter, Fla.; sister Florence Fitzpatrick, and husband George; and many wonderful friends and extended family. He was a loving "Poppa" to 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was a World War II veteran of the US Navy, and served proudly as a sergeant in the New York Police Department.
Mr Escoda enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, golfing, horseshoes, bowling, and gardening. He was a jack-of-all-trades, master storyteller, and bingo-meister. Another passion was cooking. His friends at Sandpiper Bay will miss his renowned corned beef and cabbage, and "Poppa's Stuffing" will remain infamous among family members. He will be missed by all who knew him for his humor, laughter, patience, wisdom, and love.
A memorial celebration of Mr Escoda's life will take place at a later date.
