Appearance Charge
Police said that at about 6 am on April 11, they went to the residence of Jaroslaw Gosk, 48, of Newtown, and charged Gosk on a warrant with first-degree failure to appear in court in connection with a past incident.
Police held Gosk on $25,000 bail for an arraignment on the charge that day in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.
DUI Arrest
Police received a call about 4:39 pm on April 11 from a person at a gas station at 62 Church Hill Road, requesting that they perform a health/welfare check on an individual, according to police records.
Police responded and after investigating, they charged Elizabeth Beatty, 54, of Sandy Hook with driving under the influence. Following processing, police released Beatty on $100 bail for an April 25 appearance in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury.
Five Warrants
Police report that on the afternoon of April 10, they spotted motorist Katherine Sullivan, 53, of no certain address, driving eastward on Church Hill Road and heading toward Riverside Road.
Police said they recognized Sullivan as a person for whom they held multiple arrest warrants. Police stopped Sullivan on Philo Curtis Road, near Quail Hollow Lane, to investigate, and charged Sullivan with one count of first-degree failure to appear in court and also with four counts of second-degree failure to appear in court because she had not shown up for scheduled appearances at Superior Court in Danbury and in Norwalk.
Police held Sullivan on $65,000 bail overall for an April 11 court appearance.
Failure To Appear
Police report that after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Michael Masilotti, 49, of Sandy Hook, on the afternoon of April 9 turned himself over to police at the police station and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court.
Police initially had charged Masilotti on July 22, 2017, with driving while under suspension. Masilotti later pleaded not guilty to that charge in court. On March 27, a judge in Connecticut Superior Court in Danbury issued a warrant against Masilotti because Masilotti had not made a scheduled court appearance in the case.
After arrest processing on April 9, Masilotti posted $500 bail and was then released for an April 19 court appearance.
Minivan Vs Van
Police report that motorist Anna Ruggiero, 48, of Sandy Hook was driving a 2014 GMC Safari van westward on Church Hill Road about 11:57 am on April 8 and then stopped for traffic conditions about 100 feet east of Church Hill Road's intersection with Walnut Tree Hill Road.
Westbound motorist Lynda Healey, 65, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2003 Honda Odyssey minivan, then struck the rear end of the GMC. There were no injuries.
Healey received a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart, according to police.
DUI Arrest
Police said they received a call informing them that a motorist was stumbling as he walked in the Walgreens Pharmacy parking lot at 49 South Main Street at about 1:37 pm on April 6.
Police responded to that area to investigate and said they located the vehicle that the man in question was then driving northward on South Main Street. After stopping the auto, police charged motorist Scott Fera, 64, of Newtown, with driving under the influence, failure to drive to the right, and improper use of a turn signal.
After arrest processing, police released Fera on $500 bail for an April 12 court appearance.
I-84 Accident
At about 2:26 pm on April 6, motorist Jacqueline Lapidus, 76, of Brighton, Mass., who was driving a 1999 Subaru Legacy sedan on a tri-lane section of westbound Interstate 84, attempted to merge into an adjacent lane, but struck a 2017 Mazda CX-5 SUV driven by Bernard Lavigne, 60, of Southington, state police report.
There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.
DUI Collision
Police report that after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Scott Bierce, 27, of Sandy Hook went to the police station about 5 pm on April 6, and was arrested on five charges stemming from a motor vehicle accident that occurred on the night of December 26 on Toddy Hill Road, near its intersection with Quarry Ridge Road.
Police said they charged Bierce with driving under the influence, reckless driving, traveling unreasonably fast, passing in a no-passing zone, and failure to drive in the proper lane.
Police have said that Bierce was driving a 2006 Honda CR-V SUV southward as another motorist was driving a 2005 Hyundai Sonata sedan northward on December 26. The Honda then crossed the road's center line in attempting to pass a southbound noncontact vehicle, but in making that maneuver, the Honda struck the Hyundai, police have said. Both motorists went to Danbury Hospital following that collision.
Following arrest processing, police released Bierce on $2,500 bail for an April 19 court arraignment. Police said that a court-imposed condition of the arrest warrant prohibits Bierce from driving.
Honda Hits Subaru
At about 6 pm on April 5, motorist Virginia Holmes, 34, of Monroe, who was driving a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek SUV southward on South Main Street, stopped in the straight-ahead lane at a red traffic signal, near the northern driveway for Sand Hill Plaza, police said.
Southbound motorist Lesly Cantono, 40, of Sandy Hook, who was driving a 2013 Honda Fit SUV, stopped behind the Subaru. When the signal turned green, the Honda then drove into the rear end of the Subaru.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps went to the scene to check on Holmes, but made no transport.
Police report they issued Cantono an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.
Onto The Median
State police report that at about 1:14 pm on April 4, motorist Daniel DeJesus, 30, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2012 Audi A-5 auto westward on Interstate 84, near Exit 10, attempted to change travel lanes, but cut off a 2010 Peterbilt heavy truck driven by Daniel Head, 58, of North Carolina, resulting in the two vehicles colliding.
The Audi then went into a spin and landed on the highway median, striking some guardrailing there. The
Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported DeJesus to Danbury Hospital. DeJesus made an unsafe lane change, state police said.
DUI Incident
Police said they received a report informing them that a black Mercedes-Benz auto was being driven erratically on Berkshire Road, near its intersection with Nighthawk Lane, at about 4:13 pm on April 4, so they responded to investigate.
Police said they spotted the vehicle in question near the intersection of Berkshire Road and Wasserman Way and saw it swerving. Police stopped the auto to investigate, after which they arrested motorist Chay Prakuson, 50, of Newtown, on charges of driving under the influence, failure to maintain the travel lane, and driving without a license.
Police said that after processing, they released Prakuson on $500 bail for an April 18 court appearance.
Vandalism
Police report they arrested a Middlebury man on April 3 on four charges following two incidents on April 1 at a Botsford residence.
During the first incident, James Madrak, 37, allegedly went to the residence and vandalized a propane gas line, and during the second incident Madrak allegedly threw a large rock through the kitchen window. After investigating, police arrested Madrak on April 3 on two counts of second-degree criminal mischief and on two counts of violating a protective order.
Madrak was released on $5,000 bail for an April 4 arraignment in Danbury Superior Court. In court, Madrak pleaded not guilty to the four charges. He is scheduled to return to court on May 3. Madrak, who remains free on $5,000 bail, is represented by a public defender.
