Verne C. Leavenworth

Verne Leavenworth, 76, of New Preston, died peacefully at home with her family at her side, on August 6. She was the widow of Ronald N. Leavenworth, who died September 20, 1993. She was born in Washington, Conn., January 18, 1940, and was the daughter of the late Eva (Reid) and Albert Collins Cieklinski.

Her three brothers, Fred Collins of Newtown, Garth Collins of Marble Dale, and Paul Collins and his wife, Kaye, of Roxbury; son Bruce Leavenworth and wife, Margaret, of Bantam; daughter Cheryl Leavenworth of New Preston; two grandchildren, Aaron Leavenworth of Bantam and Meghan Sampson and husband, Bryce, of Winchester; a great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews survive her. Her sister, Faye Mitchell, predeceased her.

Mrs Leavenworth was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1958. She married her husband on June 13, 1959, at the First Congregational Church of New Milford.

She worked as a bookkeeper for several local car dealerships and, most recently, for the Northville and Bantam Markets.

She enjoyed working outside in her flower gardens, mowing the lawn, weed whacking, and plowing her driveway with the lawn tractor. She especially enjoyed being with, and spending time with, family and friends.

Funeral services will take place on Wednesday, August 10, at 2 pm, at the Lillis Funeral Home, 58 Bridge Street, New Milford. Burial will follow at the New Preston Cemetery.
