Joan Vogel, 77, of Newtown, wife of Clinton Vogel, died November 3 in Regional Hospice, Danbury. She was born in Norwalk, May 8, 1938, and was the daughter of the late Helen (Dombroski) and John Giglio.

She was a graduate of Staples High School in Westport. She resided in Westport prior to moving to Newtown 37 years ago, where she got a job through the SEDA government program at the Newtown town clerk’s office, because of her typing ability. Mrs Vogel later went on to become the Newtown assistant town clerk, and was very close friends with her coworkers Gladys Eddy, Connie Gleason, and Mae Schmidle.

She was passionate about animal welfare and the Newtown Animal Shelter.

Survivors in addition to her husband of 40 years include one daughter, Diane Dias, and her husband Joe, of New Milford; a brother, Joseph Giglio of Newtown; and her “grand dog.” In addition to her parents, a brother, Leonard Giglio, predeceased Mrs Vogel.

A memorial service took place November 9. Interment was in Assumption Cemetery, Greens Farms, Westport.
