James Bishop, 74, of Seymour, beloved husband of the late Phyllis Nadeau Bishop, died November 5 in his home, following a sudden illness. Born October 9, 1941, in Bridgeport, he was the only child of the late Irene (O’Hara) and James E.  Bishop.

Mr Bishop was raised in Easton, and resided in Newtown and Monroe for many years before settling in Seymour for more than 25 years. He was a 1960 Newtown High School graduate, and enlisted in the US Army, serving in the Vietnam War. James was honorably discharged in 1966, decorated with the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and as an Expert M-14 Rifle Marksman.

He made many friends over the years with his involvement in martial arts, playing darts, as a state champion at archery, and with his frequent visits to 100 Church, the Lakehouse, and many other establishments. Mr Bishop will be long remembered for his whimsical phrases that his loved ones frequently share.

His devoted children and their spouses, Scott and Kimberly Bishop of Bethany, Yvonne and William Lorincz of Seymour, and James and Lisa Bishop of Monroe; eight grandchildren, Caleb Bishop of Bethany, Michael, Dana, and Scott Corcoran and William Lorincz of Seymour, and Dale, Gwen, and Liam Bishop of Monroe; as well as many nieces and nephews, survive Mr Bishop.

Private graveside services with military honors will take place at the Connecticut Veterans Cemetery, Bow Lane, Middletown. The family will announce future arrangements for a Celebration of Life in honor of Mr Bishop.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested to the Fisher House Foundation at www.fisherhouse.org.
