To Award Scholarships

Connecticut Choral Society  (CCS) is offering its eighth annual scholarship awards to encourage and promote young people who are singing in choruses in the greater Danbury-Waterbury area. Thirty-two regional public and private high schools, including Newtown High School, and the Litchfield County Children’s Choir have been invited to send suitable applicants.

Choral directors have been asked to nominate up to three chorus members to compete for these awards. Application packets are now in their hands and completed forms must be returned to the CCS or postmarked by February 12. High school chorus singers  are encouraged to apply for these scholarships by contacting their choral director.

Auditions and interviews will be held on April 9 for selected finalists. The competition will be juried by three noted vocal artists and teachers. The winners will be invited to sing at the Kannengeiser Scholarship Concert on Sunday, May 15, at North Congregational Church in Woodbury.

The scholarships will be awarded during that fundraising event, which is sponsored jointly by CCS and Friends of the Woodbury Public Library.

Scholarships  are funded through contributions to The Connecticut Choral Society’s Kannengeiser Scholarship Fund. This also marks the second year of the James Somers Scholarship, which is awarded in the amount of $1,000 to a student who plans a career in music.

For further information contact Nancy Liedlich at 264-0012 or Martha Cushman, 798-0477.
