Frederick "Freddy" George Sgammato, 61, of Danbury died peacefully, with his family by his side, on September 8 at Danbury Hospital. He was born in Bronxville, N.Y., and moved to Newtown shortly thereafter.

He attended St Rose School in Newtown and Immaculate High School in Danbury.

Mr Sgammato was full of jokes and stories. He was considered a quiet soul, but his laughter always filled the room. He had a passion for music and playing his guitar. Always collecting albums and sheet music, he enjoyed compiling works from his favorite performers: Fleetwood Mac, Elton John, and Rod Stewart. Passionate about drawing and painting, he filled his home with artwork and shared his work with his family. Mr Sgammato, an avid bowler, enjoyed bowling in leagues with his father and friends. He loved animals, especially his two favorite dogs, Abbie and Splinter. His greatest passion in life was the love and daily care he provided his mother and father. Mr Sgammato was a wise man with a big heart, admired by all and will be missed dearly.

His loving parents, Fred and Georgette Sgammato; sister, PatriciaTeitelbaum, and her husband, Stuart; nephews; niece; three great-nieces; and many cousins survive him.

Friends may call on Tuesday, September 13, from 5 to 7 pm, at Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, September 14, at 10:30 am, at St Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 46 Church Hill Road, Newtown. Interment will follow at Newtown Village Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, lls.org
