John Schalkham, 70, of Spring Hill, Fla., husband of Betsy (Chatterton) Schalkham, died at Hospice House October 14, surrounded by his family. He was born March 6, 1945, in the Bronx, N.Y., to Margaret and Henry Schalkham.

In addition to his devoted wife, four sons, Brad, and his wife Maggie, of Newtown, John, and his wife Cheryl, of Brookfield, Greg, and his longtime companion Stephanie, and Matt; four stepchildren and their spouses, Richard and Ashley of Stamford, Jacqui of New Fairfield, Phil and Ali of New Fairfield, and Robert and Kim of LaGrangeville, N.Y.; 14 grandchildren; his brother Paul, and longtime companion Nancy, of San Antonio, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews survive Mr Schalkham.

He owned and operated Auto Craft Paint & Body Shop of Carmel, N.Y., for 35 years, a very reputable and successful business. Mr Schalkham loved retiring in Florida, where he enjoyed playing golf, relaxing at the pool, and spending time with family and friends.

A celebration of life service will take place Saturday, October 24, at 11 am, at the Congregational Church of New Fairfield, 22 Gillotti Road, New Fairfield.
