Anna M. Gantert, 87, of Sandy Hook, cherished wife of 64 years to the late Harold E. Gantert, died peacefully at Danbury Hospital January 29. She was born in Danbury, October 1, 1927, and was the daughter of the late Anna (Travoska) and Peter J. Burns.

She was a graduate of Danbury High School, and became a registered nurse through St Vincent’s Hospital.

Mrs Gantert retired from Pediatric Associates and also enjoyed working in the Danbury Hospital OR and for Glen Hill.

A loving homemaker, she was happiest spending time with her family, and being active with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved to travel with her husband, going skiing, dancing, or taking in dinner and a show. She was a diehard Red Sox fan. Mrs Gantert had a talent for making handmade crafts, including Christmas ornaments that bless the homes of many family members and friends.

Most importantly, the Ganterts’ strong love and bond of family will be carried on through their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and generations to come.

She will be sadly missed by her two sons, Joseph E. Gantert, and his wife Patricia, of Sandy Hook, and Harold D. Gantert, and his wife Amy, of New Milford; her three grandchildren and spouses, Amanda and Tim Beers, Lianne and Scott Jacob, and Joseph E. and Stacy Gantert, Jr.; and her two great-grandchildren. She was anxiously awaiting the birth of two new great-grandchildren. Her brother, Joseph J. Burns, and his wife Midge, also survive Mrs Gantert.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 3, at 10:30 am, at St Peter Church, 104 Main Street, Danbury. Burial will follow in St Peter Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Cornell Memorial Home, 247 White Street, Danbury, Tuesday morning, between the hours of 9 and 10 am.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
