Virginia Patricia Hunt Peterson

Virginia Patricia Hunt Peterson, 96, of Lakewood, Colo. and formerly of Sandy Hook, died September 1, at Willow Brook Place. She was born in Spokane, WA, on September 11, 1918, the daughter of Olga Matilda Petersen Hunt and Joseph Frederick Hunt. 

She was the wife of Henry Frank Peterson for 57 years, until his death in 1998. Her daughter Carol Zimmerman, of Vero Beach, Fla.; and grandchildren Tracey Brown and her husband, Terry, Kelley Mottola and her husband, Vince, Jill Andrews and her husband, Dan, Katherine Anderson and her husband, Mark, Kendall  Zimmerman, and Andrew Zimmerman survive Mrs Peterson. Nine great-grandchildren in Washington State and Colorado; as well as a number of nieces and nephews also survive her. Her son, Kent Peterson; and grandsons Christopher Peterson and Willis Zimmerman III; and siblings Caroline Hunt, Marjorie Hunt Adair, and The Rev Joseph Frederick Hunt, Jr predeceased her.

She attended the University of Idaho and was a member of Delta Gamma Sorority.

She married Henry Frank Peterson in 1941 and they lived in Denver and Salt Lake City before settling in Richland, Wash., where Mr Peterson was an

engineer on the Hanford Project during WWII.  The family moved to Stamford in 1964.  Later, Mrs Peterson lived in Southbury, Brookfield, and Sandy Hook.

While in Stamford she served on the St. John's Episcopal Church Vestry and was a member of the PEO Greenwich Chapter. In Southbury she was active in St Paul’s Episcopal Church, Woodbury. She was a member of the PEO Southbury Chapter, and a docent of The Glebe House, Woodbury. In Sandy Hook, she attended Trinity Episcopal Church.

She traveled extensively, loved to read, and was a loyal friend to many people. She is remembered by those who knew her as was elegant and stylish — a classy lady. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and said they were “the light of her life."

There will be a burial of her ashes in the Trinity Memorial Garden, Trinity Episcopal Church, at 1 pm, Saturday, October 17.
