Luther Henry Pottbecker, 92, of Melbourne, Fla., and a resident for many years of the Candlewood Lake Club, New Milford, died peacefully on November 3, surrounded by family in Newtown, following a short battle with cancer. He was born in East Prussia, Germany, on July 18, 1924, son of the late Anna (Morning) and William Pottbecker and immigrated to the United States with his parents at a young age.

In 1943, Mr Pottbecker enlisted in the Army and served in the 347th Airdrome Squadron and participated in the China-Burma-India Campaign during World War II. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon with Two Bronze Stars and the World War II Victory Ribbon.

Married for 54 years, Mr Pottbecker met his wife, Amy MacDonald, in New Haven, at a YWCA dance. The two were blessed with two children, Cathy Ann Pottbecker-Alpert of Newtown and Scott Edward Pottbecker of Morris, Conn.

In addition to his children, his son-in-law, Craig Alpert; daughter-in-law, Amy Pottbecker; and four grandchildren, Kayla, Colin, Taylor, and Sage, survive him. They were all adored and loved deeply by Mr Pottbecker. His wife predeceased him.

For those who knew Mr Pottbecker, they will remember a man that loved his family, was forever "29" at heart, and lived life to the fullest. In addition to enjoying spending time with his family and friends, he enjoyed playing bridge, golf, swimming, sailing, boating, and dancing. Mr Pottbecker was an active member in the American Contract Bridge League and was a Masterpoints recipient.

In lieu of flowers, Mr Pottbecker wished for everyone to spend time with family and friends and celebrate life.

There will be a private burial in New Milford Center Cemetery.
