Michael Sochacki, 86, of Coco, Fla., died August 30 after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Susan Tarasovic Sochacki. Mr Sochacki was born in Fairfield, January 9, 1920, son of Joseph and Antonia Glabocda Sochacki and was a former resident of Bridgeport and Westport, having moved to Florida 20 years ago.
Survivors include a son, Deacon David M. Sochacki, DDS, and his wife, Kathleen Bosley Sochacki, of Sandy Hook; three grandchildren, Christopher Sochacki (Julie Cano), Mary Elizabeth Sugden (Joseph), and Mary Caitlin Sochacki; two great-grandchildren, Brandon and Sean Sochacki; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his three sisters, Eva Bollard, Anna Gmitter, and Josephine Sochacki.
Mr Sochacki was a former carpenter and foreman for the P.W. Nathan Company before starting his own home construction business, Michael Sochacki, Inc, that he operated for 40 years. He was well known for his high quality home building and was noted in the book, The House in My Head, written by Dorothy Rogers regarding the home Mr Sochacki built for the Rogers in Greenfield Hill, Fairfield.
He had a passion for golf and won the Presidentâs Cup at the Longshore Golf Club in Westport several times. He was also a former member of the Polish-American Club and the Elks Club in Florida.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, October 14, at 11 am, in St Matthew Church, 216 Scribner Avenue, Norwalk, with Pastor Walter Orlowski officiating.
