Dorothy Thompson
Dorothy Thompson, 91, formerly of Newtown, died peacefully June 4, in Fort Myers, Fla., after a brief illness. She was the wife of the late S. Franklyn Thompson. She was born July 6, 1923, in Sharon, Conn., and was the daughter of Frank and Viola Manning.
She grew up in Washington Depot and was a graduate of Washington High School. Married in 1946, she and her husband later moved to Newtown where they were longtime residents, raising their family here. She remained in Newtown until last summer when she moved to Fort Myers, to be closer to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mrs Thompson worked for many years at Newtown Savings Bank on Main Street. She was a member of the Newtown Congregational Church and the Judea Chapter of the DAR. Over the years, she was a volunteer at Danbury Hospital and a driver for Meals on Wheels. Later in her life she enjoyed spending time at the Newtown Senior Center.
Her daughter Nancy Belli and her husband, John, of Denville, N.J.; her granddaughter, Laura Strelser, and her husband, Mike; grandson, Robert Jackson; and her three great-grandchildren, all of Fort Myers, survive Mrs Thompson. Her husband; and her daughter, Donna, predeceased her.
A graveside service will take place at noon, Friday, June 12, at the Newtown Village Cemetery on Elm Drive.
