Mildred L. Young of Modesto, Calif., died at Samaritan Village on March 29, at 101 years of age.

Mrs Young and her husband Henry lived for a number of years and raised three of their children in Newtown. Mrs Young was a devoted member of St Rose Church of Newtown, the Carmelite Order, and worked for the Grand Union Grocery. She retired in 1976.

The family also lived for some time in Bridgeport, where four of the Young children were raised.

Mrs Young is survived by her children Clifford Young of Connecticut, Mildred Amante of Arizona, Frances Kaufman of Nevada, Kathleen Parker of New Mexico, Michael Young of California, and Thomas Young of Iowa; 16 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.

Mrs Young was predeceased by her husband, and a son, Wesley, who died in childhood.

She will be remembered for her faith, love, and forgiveness, her love for her family, daily church attendance, being a seamstress, and caring for her sweetheart. Her children will remember a woman who lived a full life, always giving of herself to both family and stranger.

Mildred and Henry Young were recognized by the American Truck Historical Society for their involvement with the early trucking industry in Connecticut.

The Youngs moved to Modesto in 1988 and joined Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, where they continued to serve.

Her family would like to thank the staff at Samaritan Village; Hospice; Lakewood Memorial Park of Hughson, Calif.; Eaton Family Mortuary of Modesto; and Father Vergare of St Anthony’s Catholic Church.
